Don’t be a pain in the neck! All the muscles in the body are connected. If you are experiencing neck pain, an integrated approach may be best. Especially if you don’t want it coming back. It can be frustrating when the pain just keeps coming back so we want to be proactive!... The most common causes of neck pain can be related to: muscle stiffness, strain or weakness disc-related issues Rounded shoulders and forward head or bad posture Trigger points Deep flexors weakness Stress repetitive strain or other injuries It’s important to address any imbalances or misalignments at the neck as that can have an effect down the rest of your body (lower back, knees, ankles) If you’re experiencing neck pain, spending some time with any of our experienced massage therapists will help. They can help release trigger points and tension with a variety of techniques. Though they can help identify the problem, it’s up to you to take care each and every day with exercise, good posture and stretching! Call us to book an appointment and find out more! 780-712-1330

As many of you may have already heard from the announcement earlier this evening, all Massage services will be closed starting this Sunday December 13. Because of this change, the massage therapists in our clinic have opened up a few extra time slots for the remainder of this week to try and fit in a few extra clients. They will also open up a few spots on Saturday as well. We are just as upset about these changes as all of you and hope to see massage open again soon. ... Our clinic will be remaining OPEN for Chiropractic treatments. https://www.alberta.ca/enhanced-public-health-measures.aspx

With the town of Edson passing a mandatory facial covering bylaw effective November 18, 2020, we will require all patients entering the clinic to now wear a face mask as per the bylaw. Please make sure to help keep our business safe by following this bylaw with us. If you don’t have a face mask then we can provide a disposable one for you to use while in the clinic. Thanks everyone for your help and cooperation with this.

Edited: Attention all Massage Clients!! As of July 21, 2020 the Massage Associations of Alberta have recommended for all massage clients to wear a face covering/mask during their treatment. It is not mandatory, but recommended directly from the Government of Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health. If you cannot wear a mask, or would prefer not to wear a mask, then please let us know and we can discuss with you what options are available so that there is still a safe way the massage therapists can provide your treatment. Thank you for your cooperation

Some of you may have already heard the exciting news! Today it was announced that phase 2 will be opening up earlier than planned...this Friday June 12! This means massage and acupuncture will be up and running again! We have a cancelation/waiting list of people we need to call and book appointments for first. We are currently contacting those on that list. We will probably need a couple days to accomplish this, so please be patient until we have contacted those on th...at list. Like chiropractic appointments, you will be asked some COVID screening questions when we book your appointment as well as when you enter the clinic for your appointment. You will be asked to sanitize your hands when entering the clinic. Please only show up no earlier 5 mins before your scheduled appointment, as space is limited in the waiting area. Our massage therapists and acupuncturist are excited to get back to work and look forward to seeing you all soon

Since reopening the clinic we have had many people asking us a lot of questions. And for good reason as there have been a few changes to our clinic procedures that you should be aware of. So we would like to take this time to answer some of those questions for you Are you open?... Yes! Dr. Johnston is available for all of your chiropractic care needs. Are massage and acupuncture available? No they are not for right now. They are expected to open in phase 2, which was stated as tentatively starting on June 19. Can I book a massage or acupuncture appointment? No. We can’t book anything until we have a confirmed date to return and until they get their policy and procedure information from their designated associations. We do have a cancelation/call list and those clients on that list will have priority when we are able to start booking appointments for massage and acupuncture again. Do I have to wear a mask when I come for my appointment? No, you are not required to wear a mask in our clinic or for your chiropractic appointment. But our staff and Dr. Johnston will be wearing masks. If you would like to wear a mask we can provide one for you, or bring your own if you have one. What should I expect when I come for my chiropractic appointment? We ask that you come no earlier than 5mins before your scheduled appointment time . You will be asked to sanitize your hands when you enter the clinic. You will also be asked the same screening questions you were asked when you booked your appointment. Can I bring my friend with me to my appointment? Sorry but No. Only the individual(s) who have appointments are allowed to come in the clinic (parents and caregivers are the exception). Can I book my whole family for appointments? Yes but we are limiting the amount of people in the treatment rooms to 2 at one time and they have to be from the same household. Have your hours changed? No, we still have the same hours with the exception of Tuesdays, where we are closed at 6:00pm instead of 8:00pm, until massage and acupuncture are back. If you have any other questions please feel free to call the clinic 780-712-1330.

Active Health Chiropractic and Wellness Centre 15.05.2020

We have some good news! Alberta Health Services has approved the reopening of chiropractic clinics, with a list of conditions to be met. We have been busy trying to get everything ready to reopen and are excited to announce that we will reopen for chiropractic care on Wednesday May 6! We will be in the office tomorrow, Tuesday May 5, from 9am-2pm and will be contacting those of you who asked to be put on our waiting list. We will also be taking calls to book appointments fo...r the rest of the week. This is for Chiropractic treatments only. Patients will be screened on the phone prior to booking and in person when they arrive, and are required to answer all questions honestly. Because of this, making appointments and other standard processes may take a bit longer than usual, so please have patience with our staff. We will be observing the standard 2 meter distance and Dr. Johnston and front staff will be wearing masks for patient encounters. We will also be following all hand sanitizing protocols. We ask that only the person to be treated enters the clinic (unless it is a parent or caregiver of the client) and that you come into the clinic no more than 5mins prior to your appointment time. Anyone who is elderly or immune compromised please let the receptionist know when you are booking and we will try to book an appointment time for you that limits the chance of coming into contact with other clients. At this time our hours will remain the same, with the exception of Tuesday’s, which we will only be open until 6:00pm for the time being. If you have any questions, please message us or call tomorrow between 9am-2pm at 780-712-1330. We are all excited to see you again!

As many of you have already heard, the Alberta government has come out with a plan to begin the process of reopening businesses. We have had many clients contact us asking when we will be reopening so we thought we should clarify this with everyone. Chiropractic services are in stage 1 of the plan, which could be as soon as May 14. Right now the Alberta College and Association of Chiropractors is working with the provincial government to come up with a list of safe practices ...and protocols so that Chiropractors will be able to reopen. Once approved, and once we have the clinic ready to fulfill these protocols, we will be able to reopen for chiropractic treatments. We are currently in the process of preparing for these protocols and will update you all when we have a specific date. Massage is set to reopen in stage 2. We will not get the date for this stage until the stage 1 transition has been successful. We are currently unsure of when acupuncture will be available as this wasn't clearly stated in their document. We assume they will reopen the same time as massage. For more information on the government's relaunch plan, please visit the following website https://www.alberta.ca//covid19-alberta-relaunch-strategy. As always, thank you for your patience and understanding with this whole process. We have missed seeing you all and look forward to being able to help you with your musculoskeletal needs soon!

These are very good questions, and especially #7 hits home for us. I know that what I do as a Chiropractor doesn’t save lives, but it sure does affect people’s quality of life. Some of the messages I’ve received from my patients explaining the debilitating pain and discomfort they are in just breaks my heart. They are suffering and there’s nothing I can do about it because I’m mandated to be closed to in office patient care. I understand the real threat of Covid-19, but I also understand there are other serious health effects surfacing from this pandemic that are not directly related to the virus. Hopefully we can start to overcome this and begin helping people in other ways besides social distancing and isolation. Fingers crossed Dr. J

** COVID-19 Update** With the Alberta Government making it an official directive that all non-essential services (including massage, acupuncture, and chiropractic) in the province be closed, Active Health Chiropractic and Wellness Centre will continue to be closed at this time. We do not have a timeline yet on when we can re-open, but please watch our page and feel free to contact us if needed. The Alberta College and Association of Chiropractors, in accordance with the Albe...rta Government, has given permission for Chiropractors to see emergency or critical care patients on a case by case basis, as well as screening for symptoms and possible exposure to the COVID-19 virus. This allowance is in an effort to help keep people out of the emergency departments for services that could be provided by a Chiropractor. Dr. Johnston however cannot see any patients that do not constitute urgent, critical or emergency care. If you feel that you have an acute condition that requires urgent or emergency care then please contact us via Facebook messenger or email at [email protected] and we'll see what we can do to help.

*** We at Active Health Chiropractic and Wellness Centre have made the difficult decision to temporarily close effective March 20, 2020 at 5:30pm.*** It is uncertain at this time when we will re-open due to the public health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic that is beginning to grow in our country and province. We feel it is important to do our part to help "flatten the curve" and follow the direction of the Government of Alberta to practice social distancing in a...n effort to stop the spread of the virus. Our main concern is for those who are immunocompromised or have underlying conditions which put them at greater risk of severe complications if they become infected with COVID-19. Therefore we will be temporarily closing our doors for patient care and encourage everyone to do their part in order to help stop the spread of this virus. In the meantime we understand that some of you will have musculoskeletal problems that arise. Please feel free to contact us via messenger, or email at [email protected] if you would like advice or consultation on how to help with your symptoms. We'll do what we can to help even while being closed to patient care. Your health is important to us and we'll be here for you! We don't have a definitive timeline and will watch the recommendations given through our government and provincial health care officials, and will let you know as soon as possible when we will be re-opening. Please take care and stay healthy!

**UPDATE** - Massage Clients - We received notice this evening from our associations that effective immediately all massage therapy services will cease until at least April 1st, 2020. Here is part of the message we received: ... Massage Therapy is not an essential front-line medical service. Although it is an incredibly effective and beneficial healthcare service, the risks of potentially contracting or transmitting COVID-19 generally outweigh the benefits of massage therapy treatment. ... Nationally, it has become clear that it is time to take extreme measures to help flatten the curve of this virus. We need to help our first-line healthcare providers save the lives of Canadian’s. We can do this by suspending our practices, applying social distancing in our lives, and stopping the spread of COVID-19. We know our members want to do what is right, even if it the hard choice, and it is clear the right choice today is to suspend all massage therapy activities. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause some of our clients. We will be contacting those with scheduled massages tomorrow and will keep you posted as we are updated on this situation. For now, all Chiropractic and Acupuncture treatments will continue as scheduled, but may change in the near future. We will keep you posted! Stay healthy and safe.

Active Health Chiropractic and Wellness Centre 05.03.2020

Amid the COVID-19 virus situation, we would like to let our patients know that we will be remaining open. We are taking this scenario very seriously and will continue to make the health, well-being and safety of our patients, staff and practitioners a priority. We continue to be committed to providing you with a safe and clean environment in which to continue offering our services. We're encouraging anyone who feels sick to stay home in order to help prevent the spread of any... virus or infection. In the event that you do feel under the weather please let us know and we would be more than happy to reschedule your appointment. Out of respect to our practitioners and the time they dedicate to their patients, please try to do this prior to your scheduled appointment. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call the clinic at 780-712-1330. Thanks everyone! -Dr. David Johnston
