Today’s #teachabletuesday post talks about Histrionic Personality Disorder. About 2%-3% of the general population are affected by HPD and women are 4 times more likely men to be diagnosed for HPD. A person suffering from Histrionic personality disorder may experience affective dysregulation that causes frequent mood-swings, anger, and anxiety. Moreover, their interpersonal relationships can be strained because they are often viewed as shallow and lacking sincerity. It’s easy to get lost in the bigger picture. For example, I need to study for 5 exams can be overwhelming. But I need to study for my psych exam can seem like less of a daunting task. Or even I need to study chapters 5 and 6 of my textbook today. Breaking down the tasks you need to accomplish can make them easier to tackle. #WellnessWednesday

Today’s #teachabletuesday post talks about Seasonal Affective Disorder. The lack of sunlight and the cold weather can result in feeling sad and tired for many but for some people, it might be a clinical form of depression- Seasonal Depressive Disorder. Experiencing symptoms of this disorder is more than having ‘winter blues’ and requires professional help. Selective Mutism can greatly impair a child’s capability to maintain a normal and healthy social life. It can also impact their academics because of the inability to communicate effectively. Sometimes, the disorder will wane with age but an anxiety disorder may still persist. #teachabletuesday Learn more about Selective Mutism from our sources! - https://thriveboston.com/counseling/selective-mutism/

Growing up, I attended four high schools in four years, changing cities when I would change teams. I was playing hockey and chasing a childhood dream, to play professional hockey. I devoted my entire adolescent life to hockey. I never partied, had many friends, or socialized outside the rink. I played from the age of four years old until I was about eighteen, my life was devoted to hockey. I was playing for a farm team of an OHL club when I was checked from behind and sent he...ad first into the boards. I was diagnosed with a massive concussion and prescribed bed rest indefinitely. Injuries were nothing new to me, I had broken at least one bone on every limb of my body, but concussions were new to me and potentially life-changing. Two months passed and I was eventually cleared to play. I returned to my team only to find I had been replaced, and my OHL contract: terminated. For the first time in 14 years, I was no longer playing competitive hockey, I was devastated. This was a terrifying realization; an identity crisis of sorts. I lost myself and who I was. I was always known as the hockey player but now, a nobody. Years later, I took to cycling as a safer alternative to hockey. The isolation and hopelessness I felt was very hard on me. I created a social group and charity called Cycling for Mental Health to ensure no one has to go it alone. - Wyatt, #MentalHealthMonday
