Fun Fact: Prevalent across Central and South America, leafcutter ants are known for their leadership, hard work, and engineering large nitrous oxide hot spots in tropical forests... These leafcutter ants are carrying leaves to their colony - not for food, but to grow fungus. It’s this fungus that they eat. The fungus piles release incredible amounts of nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere. In a research paper published by The Royal Society (link below), it i...s mentioned that leaf cutter ants’ fungus piles are often comparable to or greater than point source emissions measured from engineered or intensively managed anthropogenic systems such as wastewater management facilities. Now, our team has completed wastewater treatment and Gas to Power projects overseas - wonder if we will ever see a human innovation related to the leafcutter ant phenomenon? ActivEng's client had experienced significant volume growth at their transfer terminal, where heavy crude from oilfield trucks was transferred to train tank cars. At the time of this project, the terminal was capable of loading over 80,000 bbls/d. To transload products with elevated H2S concentration (ranging from 300 ppm to 500 ppm), an enhanced H2S detection system and sensor addition were required. Continuous monitoring of fugitive H2S emissions from the transloading proce...ss was crucial to maintain a safe working environment. To further enhance the safety of their operators, ActivEng recommended the addition of nine H2S sensors in three pump buildings and three metering buildings. Our scope included: - H2S sensor datasheet and recommendations - Update P&IDs - Update associated electrical drawings, including: plot plan (safety layout), junction box drawings, shutdown key, PLC loop drawings, and cable schedule #energy #H2S #engineering #safety

Our solar installation along the banks of the Logone River near #Chad, Africa, resulted in protecting a vital freshwater source. The main objective of the project was to use pressure differential technology for detecting possible leaks from our clients export pipelines and facilitating a shut-down if necessary. ActivEngs project management team successfully and safely executed all aspects of this project, from conception through completion. Thank you Chris Rousch from Veresen Midstream for your refreshing presentation last Thursday - How Midstream Infrastructure Can Restore the Western Canadian Advantage. He argued a key point: if it was indeed better to build LNG Canada elsewhere, large international conglomerates (Shell, Petronas, Petro China, Mitsubishi) would choose to do ...so. Instead, these organizations have all strategically decided to stay here... and move projects forward with confidence. Chris polled the audience, "where is this energy going to come from?"... His answer was clear and we agree - #Canada. Thanks to the Petroleum Joint Venture Association and the Calgary Petroleum Club for hosting a fantastic event. ActivEng was commissioned to undertake the Detail Design (DD) to evaluate both technical and economic criteria with the aim of proposing the most viable alternatives for upgrading the clients existing station - the central hub for their production facilities. Located in the northern territory of Australia, our client needed to complete a conceptual design for phase 1 only and cost (TIC) estimates for 3 phases of this project development. (TIC Total installed cost Alberta-based pricing). We provided a pre-FEED engineering package for the clients gas facility ranging from 20mmscf/d expandable to 40mmscf/d - based on the following gas analysis: 96% methane, 3% ethane, 0.5% propane and 0.5% co2. #engineering #oilandgas #GasAnalysis
