COVID-19 has not slowed Clayton down! While everyone has had to adjust to ever changing lockdown rules (we see you, and you’re killing it!), Clayton has completely transformed APRC to accommodate Ontario’s fitness centre regulations. From moving all 1 on 1 and group fitness to our online platform, to creating a virtual dry land training camp for his Oshawa Turuls(soccer) and Oshawa Minor Hockey teams, Clayton is the definition of dedication and resilience!

We all woke this morning to find out that we are heading into another lockdown. This one really stings coming at Christmas. I know a lot of you work hard at keeping your health and fitness up and were so glad when the last lockdown ended and you could get back to the gym. Believe me, we were happy too. But this one will also end so hang in there with your goals and remember to contact any of us when you need assistance. There is is an old saying " Suffering arises from tryin...g to control the uncontrollable ". So align your focus to what you can control not to what you can't. #mindsetmonday @paul_ethier

Why should you make balance training part of your overall program? According to Dr. Eric Cobb of Z Health Performance here are a few of the reasons Improved muscle tone, movement skill and posture.... Decreased muscle tension and improved resistance to stress. Improvements in strength, speed and mobility Improvements in daily energy with decreased fatigue Improved sports performance. Some of the above will be noticeable in a very short period of time, other will take a while but will be well worth the effort. @paul_ethier #mondaymindset #Whitbywisdom

Why do we really want to change? For sustainable results it's a good question to ask yourself. We all know that there is a never ending amount of advice on HOW to change but not much on why.... I thing the only person that can answer that for you is you then from there you can seek out the best way to make it happen. So think about it and ask yourself that question. #mondaymindset #aprc #change

Want to get stronger? Then learn how to create tension in the muscles at the appropriate time. Tension equals strength. Here are a few pointers to help you with this... 1) Your most powerful " neural generators " are your abs, glutes and grip. Learn to maximally tense them 2) identify weak spots in your kinetic chain and plug them with tension during a lift. 3) Visualize transfering force from the torso to the arms through the Lats. 4) Never go to failure 5) Active negative. Pull the weight back to the body don't yeild to gravity. Try these next time at the gym. Think of your strength training time as PRACTICE and see the results. #mondaymindset #Whitbywisdom #aprc @paul_ethier

When you want to make changes to your workout routine it's valuable to know how to manipulate Training Loads. You can really change up your workouts by addressing 1) Intensity. This refers to the weight of the Kettlebell ( or whatever your using ) and how close you push to failure. Heart rate also provides a relevant measure of intensity. 2) Volume. Is the amount of work you do, measured in total reps or total pounds or kilos lifted.... 3) Density. Is the amount of work done per unit of time, usually measured with kg/ min or lbs/ min. Density reflects your work to rest ratio. Remember to keep these in mind as you plan your workouts and when you want progress. #mondaymindset #whitbyfitness @paul_ethier

Back in the 19th century James Allen wrote a book called " As a Man Thinketh". In 2017 Sam Torode rephrased the book so as to be understood in today's English. It is surprising how much of it applies to today's world. As an example in one of the paragraphs about Circumstances he states " Character is simply the sum of our thoughts. And character manifests itself in our environment and through our circumstances. So, the outer condition of your life is always a reflection of y...our inner state". #mondaymindset #aprc #Whitbywisdom @paul_ethier

Here is an easy and effective way to calm down before a meeting, an event or even before you go to sleep. It is the Alternate Nostril Breathing. Put your right thumb on your right nostril and the ring finger of the same hand on your left nostril. The forefinger and middle finger will rest between the eyebrows. Close the right nostril with your thumb and inhale slowly and deep into the stomach with your left nostril.... Pause briefly holding both nostrils closed. Now lift your thumb to exhale through your right nostril. At the conclusion of the exhale, hold both nostrils closed for a moment then inhale through the right nostril Continue to alternate breaths through the nostrils for 5 to 10 cycles. @paul_ethier #mondaymindset #breathe
