Great tips via @candace_physio Pigeon pose ... Pigeon pose can be a great stretch to relieve back pain. This pose stretches the piriformis muscle. The piriformis travels from the lower part of our spine (sacrum) to the top of the femur by our hip joint. This muscle sits directly over our sciatic nerve. Due to the close proximity to our sciatic nerve, when this muscle is tight it can contribute to back pain as well as pain that travels down the leg. If you find pigeon pose too advanced try the figure 4 pose. Thank you for sharing @team_mighty_layla! A good physiotherapist is better than a doctor when youre in rehab! We are not new to physiotherapy as I have been receiving treatments for my tension headache since grad school, and Layla has her own PT(s) since her diagnosis. As many of you knew grandpa had been doing Laylas physio and he has been wondering if it works, until he got to receive the treatments himself! After his injury we called @activephysioworks South Edmonton Mac...grath location and was accommodated right away. Because of his travel plan within 10 days he was only able to do many sessions within a short period of time, and he was in urgent need of getting better so he could travel alone internationally. Luckily we met Neal, @nealthephysio , he had been so patient, punctual, knowledgeable and reassuring. After two sessions and doing the exercises he was given, grandpa was able to reach full range of motion of his head, shoulders and arms (where the impact was!), although limping and swollen, he was also confident to walk. Before he left he was even trying to walk without his cane! He was amazed by physiotherapy could work so fast and he even had a new understanding of the things weve been told to do for Laylas physio. We cannot thank Neal, his colleagues and the clinic enough! See more

What do you do if you find yourself in a motor vehicle accident? Heres an easy to follow list of things you should do if you get into a collision: - Be sure to grab the other drivers insurance and contact information - Call your auto insurance company to report the collision... - Book in with a physiotherapist to have yourself checked out (you have 10 days to file a claim from the date of the accident to qualify for therapy under the diagnostic protocols!) Even if you dont feel sore the day of the accident, most people will not feel stiff or sore until the next few days and you never know what can start to bother you down the road. You dont need a doctors referral to book in for an appointment. If it is after the 10 days of accident and you would like to book in, you are still able. It is recommended that you call your adjuster whom you reported the accident to and let them know. Then you can easily book in with one of our therapists who will send a report in to update them on the status of your injury along with our treatment request. via @candace_physio Gluteus medius is a broad muscle that sits on the side of our hip bone. This muscle is the primary muscle to cause abduction (moving the leg away from the body) and can also aid in flexion and internal rotation of the hip. Gluteus medius is extremely important in maintaining stability of the pelvis and decreases your hip from dropping downwards when you are walking, running or single leg weight bearing. Strengthening the gluteus medius is important... for the back, hips, and knees. Certain exercises have been shown in research to activate this muscle at varying degrees. A clam shell exercise can be a good starting point, but this muscle engages the best in functional movements like step-ups, lunges, and squats. Our team is following all guidelines from our governing body- ensuring that we are maintaining our high sanitation standards. All patients are screened before they are brought back into a room including their temperature taken. Everyone is given a new medical mask to wear (that must remain on throughout the visit). A proper Kegel should consist of a strong contraction and a full relaxation.... ************************************************************* Kegels are not for everyone! A lot of the time pelvic floor disfunction is due to an overactive or tight pelvic floor. Performing Kegels will tighten the muscles further and can lead to muscle spasms. This can lead to urinary leakage, urinary urgency, and pelvic pain.
