ACTRA appeared before the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage on March 22 to sound the alarm about a proposal in Bill C-10 that could significantly reduce the requirement to use Canadian creativity and talent. Such a change would devastate our screen-based media production sector. This is an industry that contributes $12.8 billion to our country’s GDP and generates over 180,000 jobs for hard-working Canadians.

Sign the House of Commons Petition ACT NOW - the Petition closes January 23, 2021 A House of Commons Petition was created in response to letters the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) began issuing in late 2020 to recipients informing them they may or may not have been eligible for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) payments they received.... The Petition calls on the Government of Canada to adhere to its original CERB eligibility requirements, which required an individual to have employment and/or self-employment income of at least $5,000 in 2019 or in the 12 months prior to the date of their application. To retroactively change income eligibility rules now for some of the most vulnerable Canadians is unjust. Take action to help STOP the unjust CERB clawback by https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Sign/e-3066 Even if you did not receive a letter from the CRA, you likely know an artist who has. Show your support for your fellow ACTRA Members by signing this petition. The more people who sign the petition the stronger the impact it will have on our elected officials to take action to address this injustice. It's important we all stand together in solidarity for the many self-employed workers who are affected by this unjust CERB clawback. The petition closes on January 23, 2021, at 10:56 a.m. (ET).

Take Action: STOP the unjust CERB clawback The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) began issuing letters in late 2020 to recipients informing them they may or may not have been eligible for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) payments they received. When the CERB was rolled out last spring, the government said eligibility would be based on an individual having employment and/or self-employment income of at least $5,000 in 2019 or in the 12 months prior to the date of their a...pplication. It is unjust to change eligibility rules now and suggest recipients may need to repay benefits they have already received. This is why we are calling on the Government of Canada to adhere to its original eligibility requirements, which allowed self-employed Canadians to use their gross pre-tax income when determining their CERB eligibility. Send an E-mail to your Member of Parliament asking them to support this request. If you did not receive a letter, you likely know an artist who has. Show your support for your fellow ACTRA Members by sending an e-mail to your MP asking them to support this action. It's important we all stand together in solidarity for the many self-employed workers who are affected by this unjust CERB clawback. https://mailchi.mp/actr/stop-cerb-clawback-12-january-2021
