You’re not alone. This has been a major theme arising clinically the past 3 weeks. (I commiserate:) Physically what’s been showing up, that is connected via Chinese Medical theory, is . Holding the tension of this time is crucial if we want to build our resources so that we can bring our potential forth in the coming season. ... In this video, I’ll connect this symptom with this feeling and share an oil to help nourish the kidney/adrenals system (Water element) and ease those tense back muscles. & This weeks video is all about what to eat to nourish your blood and build iron. https://drpaulawoodward.com/foods-to-help-balance-hormones/... Enjoy, Xo Paula
& Here are some specific foods you can incorporate to help build and nourish your blood to balance your hormones. Last week we talked about HOW to Eat. This Week we’ll talk about WHAT to eat.... The effects of Blood deficiency, according to Chinese Medicine, can lead to: Hormonally; shorter cycles, not enough blood, painful cycles, PMS, Etc. Energy - Feeling like we are lacking in it. Digestively- A weaker digestive system in general. Pain - Not enough water in the river (blood in your body/meridians) can lead to stagnation = pain. The list goes on. Blood is such a precious resource, we want to make it a priority for optimal health. Please remember this is a complex and nuanced subject and cannot be captured in a few short videos. If you are experiencing hormonal imbalances that are disrupting your life, please see your health care provider. Life does not have to be complicated. It’s complex, sure, but not complicated. Following a few basics, intuitive and simple guidelines can shift they way we feel in no time. This weeks blog is all about HOW we eat and why it’s just as important as WHAT we eat when nourishing blood, hormones and digestion. ... https://drpaulawoodward.com/3-simple-ways-to-nourish-blood/ Xo
There’s this tree at the top of a ridge in rose valley. Somehow we always manage to find each other. There’s something so familiar about it. Like we understand each other in some strange other worldly realm. Standing alone, overlooking such beauty, twisted and gnarled, no other trees in close proximity. And yet if you stand back far enough you see that’s it’s just as much a part of the scene as any of the other pieces. It belongs just as much. I don’t imagine I’m the only ...one that feels like this. It’s a good reminder that how you see life depends almost entirely on just that...how you see it. Alone, weathered and worn over time by wind, or a beautiful work of art created exclusively out of the elements of nature/life. This is part of my obsession with the five elements of chinese medicine. They act as a metaphor for life’s experience. Wind can twist you up in knots, it creates tension and irritability but also strength and resiliency, as well as creativity. It teaches us how to adapt to circumstances so that we can keep growing into who we are meant to be. I learn a lot from this tree each time I see it.
Good news Laughter is medicinal. While it’s incredible that this is the kind of thing being researched (progress happens) I can’t help but wonder about the space where felt sense meets data. Most of us know that laughter is good medicine. I wonder what it would feel like to trust ourselves and our experiences with out needing ‘proof’ that it’s real?... None the less, hopefully more docs will start prescribing laughter as an antidote. It’s ALL connected. I have a feeling we all know that somewhere inside. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31824624/ Xo
If I had to choose one oil to use this season it would be Black Spruce. This Canadian beauty works wonderfully and willingly with us in times of exhaustion and when we need a little emotional balancing. Like most trees, it provides support and helps us find courage and calm in the face of the unknown.... https://drpaulawoodward.com/health-benefits-of-black-spruc/ xo Love for the Dark and the Light, Paula
Our words and actions speak directly to our pathology. To how we are feeling in our bodies. Without a doubt, It is ALL connected. Learning how pathology shows up has forced me to take a good look at myself and my behaviours. Sometimes, to bring it all into balance, we have to adjust our thinking, sometimes it’s a matter of starting with the physical and sometimes the emotional.... This example of a Small Intestine out of flow is incredibly common. I’m sure we’ve all been in one of those awkward moments when we or someone we know drops something into the space that is awkward and inappropriate. It’s just a sign of something deeper. Something longing for our attention, something longing for integration. We are capable of thinking in a more circular manner when it comes to health and wellness, but we have to be willing to see things differently. We can’t keep getting stuck in a) I have to see it to believe it and/or b) just treating symptoms. A+B=C. Sometimes this is the case but often times it’s not, and it doesn’t do any of us any good. We are so infinitely complex.
This is so cool. The human cell. It looks like multiple universes coming together. Pathology shows up in our language. It resonates in every facet of our being, without question. Themes of the Small Intestine (the gatekeeper to the Heart) are:... Confusion - not hearing things as they as they are truly being communicated. Digestion - An inability to discern what is coming in from the outside world (ie food, connection with other etc) Anxiety - the natural flow of the Small Intestine is downward, if this is impaired, we can feel a stifling in the chest that may occur as anxiety. An inappropriateness in our speech and the timing of our words. For the full blog: Xoxo Paula
Happy Halloween Thanks to the Dark Lord and the Intergalactic Assassin for a hilarious night. Dress up = soul food
I tried to make this brief, it's not my strong suit. If you have questions like "how might the anxiety or pain I'm experiencing be related to the changing season?" look no further, Chinese Medicine has answers to this. Toward the end of the complete video, we talk about ways that you can balance and support your system as we move into Winter.... For the complete blog check out: https://wp.me/papWoO-rR
