A Cut Above Woodworking 26.10.2021

Latest project complete. Stand alone pantry! Doors are made from solid maple. The frame is maple plywood as well as the shelves with added edging of solid maple for added strength to prevent sagging. Zero nail holes or fasteners of any sort visible anywhere! It’s 7’ tall and 4’ wide. Building something of this size was challenging to say the least. Took a lot longer than expected cause I could only work on so much at a time being so big. Learned a lot as well. It’s not perfect but you will never find this quality on wayfair!

Getting some coats of poly on these maple shelves (more shelves not in pictures)that are part of a pantry I’m building. Usually I assemble everything then do my spraying but I figured it would be easy to spray the separate pieces then assemble. We’ll see how it goes! #acutabovewoodworking#woodisgood #woodworking#woodworker#furniturebuilder #fortmcmurraywoodworking #canadianwoodworking

A set of dog stairs I just finished. I think it turned out pretty good. Next project is a maple free standing pantry. I have lots of nice bigger projects in the queue. Hoping everyone is patient and can wait for me to get to them. #acutabovewoodworking #woodworking #woodisgood #canadianwoodworker #canadianwoodworking #selftaught

Also finished up some cat houses, here is one of them. I think it looks pretty cool. I cut a hole in the plexiglass to let the cats peek out. #acutabovewoodworking #canadianwoodworking #woodworking #woodworker #woodisgood #fortmcmurraywoodworking #cathouse

Well I this project is finally finished. Minus the handles. Took longer than I had anticipated but all in all I’m pleased with how it turned out. #acutabovewoodworking #woodisgood #woodworkercommunity #cabinetmaker #fortmcmurraywoodworking #woodworking #furnituremaker #woodworkingofinstagram

I’ve been meaning to post this for awhile now. I wanted to give a big shout out to Nathalie and her team at Benjamin Moore - Absolute Serendipity. I hadn’t really found a consistent place I liked when it came buying paint and primer. This place will be getting all my business from now on. Great quality products, great customer service and everything you would ever need when it comes to painting. I highly recommend checking them out and supporting local instead of any big box store. Pictures of my current project using Benjamin Moore Advance pearl. Finished project soon to come.

Well here is my latest creation. After 142574257 mistakes it’s finished It was a Christmas gift that our neighbor ordered for her husband that ended up being a bit late but I believe the finished product was worth the wait. The first picture is what I had to reference and I just made the rest up as I built it. It was designed to hold whiskey sample bottles and glasses The main box is quarter sawn white oak. The dividers for the drawer and inside the box are made from waln...ut. The glass holder with handle is all made from sapele. The top is also sapele with white oak trim. Everything features dovetail joinery. I knew I could challenge myself going into this project and that I sure did. It was a first time for many things like re sawing thicker material with my bandsaw and then gluing up thinner panels to save on waste. Roger I hope you enjoy using this as much as I did creating it! Thanks Freya Fourny for choosing me and more importantly having confidence in me! (Oh and being so patient) See more

Just throwing this out there but if anyone was thinking or wanting a feature wall I have a bunch of 3 and 2 MDF strips cut up ready to go. More than enough of each to do an average size wall. I was suppose to I still 2 different walls but it’s looking like it might not happen. More than anything the strips are taking up room in my garage. I have 2 mitre saws so could lend one out to the person to use themselves. If it’s a board and batten wall it’s very easy to cut each strip to the length you need. It would save a person a good chunk of change if they did it themselves. I could even show them how to install the first couple pieces. I also have a battery operated pin nailer I could lend out as well so you would have the only 2 tools you would need. Just need a tube of no more nails and your all set.

Here is the last project I finished. A nice little A-frame shelf built out of pine. Top coat was sprayed on varathane. Most times the customer wants their project stained or painted. This one was nice to get to leave it’s natural color. #woodisgood #woodworking #fortmcmurraywoodworking #acutabovewoodworking #furniturebuilder
