Too hot to cycle right now well then stay indoors and stretch out some of the muscles that often get tight with cycling. Hold the following positions for 1-2 min per side. Make sure that the stretch is into the range of a comfortable pull only. 1. quads stretch: make sure that your knee faces straight down to the ground 2. Hip flexor stretch: rotate your hip upward so that you can feel the pull at the top of your thigh... 3. Hamstring stretch: keep a slight bend at your knee and lean forward from your hips. You are looking to feel a comfortable pull at the back of your thigh, not at the back of your knee 4. A foam roller can also be used to self-massage these areas. See more

Had enough of Covid? Tired of only running? Want to get on your bicycle but you are not sure if you still fit your bike and there are line ups at the bike shops? Here are some tips for adjusting your bike in order to decrease the chances of injury. The top figure shows how an optimal seat height that allows 30 degrees of knee flexion/bend. This position will help to decrease pressure on the knee and patella-femoral pain. The bottom picture shows a good horizontal position f...or the saddle (bike seat). When the pedals are parallel to the ground if you drop a plumb line from the front of the knee (tibial tuberosity) it should fall within 2-3 cm in front or behind of the pedal spindle (where the pedal attaches to the crank). If you are not within this range loosen the saddle and slide it forward or backward until your knee is within the stated range. Remember to then tighten back the seat The pictures are taken from an article by Anthony Gatti and Monica Mally in the Ontario Physiotherapy Association’s spring 2017 issue #ontariophysiotherapyassociation
