A Digital Career

I remember summer breaks as a child. I spent weeks with my cousins at our grandparent's house. We would all just get dropped off by our parents who would travel back home to work. Bless our grandpa who always was so patient. As a parent today, i now understand what a huge undertaking that was for my grandparents, and how busy we all made their household. I can relate to this article. It comments on how things are different today, where the days no longer exist wher...e we can drop our kids off at family member's homes. Gone are the days where Aunts just hang around at home and are open to entertaining their nieces and nephews on break. This daily reality for me is what drove my decision to leave my corporate career and set out to work for myself. With 3 children back then (and today a blended family of 5 children), there is always someone sick, or an appointment they need to attend. And as my friend so ideally commented on the other day, "the calvery isn't coming to help, you are it!" I was happy to find a way to work from a digital office and create a flexible work schedule!! Happy Monday Everyone!! 85% of employees admit going to a job they hate!! ZipRecruiter suggests taking the "Three Ms Test."... 1) Are you miserable? 2) Are you making enough money? 3) Are you getting mentored? They say if you answered #1 "yes", but #2 & #3 "no," you need to make a change!! I agree!! For me, there was another "M" question in there.... 4) Are you able to spend enough meaningful time with those you love? I mean, some people are miserable, but make great money..... at the sacrifice of working 70-80 hours per week. Not good, or emotionally healthy, for you or your family!! I needed better career/life balance!! I wanted to be the one spending the most time with my children, not a daycare worker. This is simply personal preference, and for me, my whole "why!"
