Adoption Options had the complete honor of working with this family and continue to enjoy regular updates from both the birth mother and the adoptive family. This is open adoption here is a little update recently shared. Daveny is a smart, funny, precocious little girl who runs all over the house and loves to giggle. She's a climber, so she keeps us on our toes watching to make sure she stays off the cat tree! Her current interests include mud puddles, snowmen, Santa, Paw Pa...trol, Peppa Pig, cars and trucks, twinkle stars, the alphabet, colours, and counting. She just turned 2, and can count to ten, and loves to point out letters and numbers on signs, clothes, and in books, and she's usually right. PLACEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT We could not be more thrilled to introduce Linden James Setchell born September 25th weighing 5.7lbs and lovingly placed in our arms the following day on September 26th. After three years of patiently waiting and hoping, we received the call from Sheryl sharing the news that we had been chosen for an instant placement. With hearts racing, we canceled our Saturday plans, dropped our pup off at the dog sitters, and immediately headed to Lethbridge to mee...t with Anneke and Linden’s incredible birth parents. There are no words to describe how thankful we are to Linden’s thoughtful and caring birth parents for such an amazing gift. Thank you to the NICU nurses at the Chinook Regional Hospital who patiently walked us through caring for baby Linden during his three night stay there. PLACEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT TO SHARE 2020 will forever be a memorable year for us and not just because of COVID. We were called by Amanda on a Thursday in March to let us know the birthparents had selected us for placement so we made the 5 hour drive south to meet with our daughter and her first family. Four short days later, 7 week old Katelyn Rose Joy was placed in our arms. Becoming parents in the middle of a global pandemic was something we never expected but we wouldn't chan...ge the experience for all the toilet paper in the world! We are beyond thrilled to be parents to our fierce, joyful, and curious little girl. She is a great addition to our team and we were thrilled to gift her with her very own jersey (we all cheer for Daddy's team!). We are grateful for Katelyn's birth mom and birth dad for selecting us and the ongoing relationship we have with them. It is with mixed emotions that I compose this post. On one hand I am quite excited about our next adventure retirement, but on the other I keep wondering how will I ever be able to leave a position that I love so very much and the people that I work with whom I love even more. I have learned so much in the past 9 years and have met some of the best people, leaving is going to be so very hard. My husband retired in 2019 and I will be retiring at the end of July. We will... then be packing up our belongings and moving to his home province of PEI where we will be joining his 13 brothers and sisters and their families. Adoption Options has hired Stephanie as the new office manager in Edmonton. We have been working together for the past week and a half and believe you will be in great hands with her in the administrative roll. I would like to take this time to thank all of the staff at Adoption Options for all the love, compassion and patience they have shown me over the years and to invite each of you to come to the Island for a visit. As Calgarians face the challenges of the pandemic alongside increasingly difficult economic times, many families may find themselves needing additional support and guidance. YW Calgary is excited to announce new and free programs - Family Champions and Families Forward, through the YW Family Resource Network. These programs offer prevention and early intervention services and supports for families with children up to 18 years of age. Caregivers and parents will gain new skills and knowledge to strengthen family relationship, support children and teens to cope with trauma and improve child and youth development by building resilience, which in turn fosters well-being. YW Family Champions Program: Free workshops for parents and caregivers tackling common issues and topics that come up for kids of all ages. Upcoming workshop topics include kids mental health, healthy sleep routines, parenting styles and setting boundaries. Free online workshops for parents start June 15th. YW Families Forward Program: Our warm and experienced facilitators provide free home visitation support to parents to build skills and problem solving strategies that will enable effective and safe home environments for kids.
