"He looks just like you guys. This is something we get told ALL of the time. I want to be truthfulso I’ll tell you that on the surface as an adoptive mom I lo...ve this phrase. I do see similarities between both Drake and I in Duke. It surely helps that both of his birth parents look like us. I know that was important to Kira (Dukes birth mom) when considering placement. I know she even thinks it’s cool that we do look similar. I know she wanted him feel comfortable having similarities with us. That being said, I have dug past the surface to think about what this comment might look like to Duke, because the truth isno matter how much he looks like us, we don’t share any dna. Although that doesn’t define him, having people say wow he looks just like you, could very well give him the impression that his biological history doesn’t matter. But it does! It matters that he looks like a replica of his birth dad. It’s something to celebrate. It matters that he will share dna with his two biological siblings. His past matters so much to us. After processing how he might feel, it has changed my response to those they make this comment. My reply now is, he actually looks so much like his birth parents, and we love that. I didn’t adopt a child to make his story disappear. It’s important, and he deserves to celebrate things that he have been given both by nature and by nurture. - Repost via @theatkinsonjourney Photo by @mtphotoandfilm #BraveLove

Grief fascinates me. We all have it at certain times; but during the infertility years it hit me the hardest. Grief for what I could not do, and the love I had to give to a child I did not have. I have since learned grief is love with no place to go. I love this concept.

From the minute that I knew that you were real and I was really having you. I knew that I needed to take care of you. Even if you were never meant to be mine. ...Giving you to Toby and Kate is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it might just be the best thing I’ll ever do. So, I have to say goodbye to you now because there is someone really special waiting to say hello. - Ellie from This Is Us Do you watch This is Us?! The show recently introduced Ellie, a birth mom, and this quote from her character is truly the epitome of #BraveLove.

Feel Good Friday! #fgf Not exactly adoption specific, but defiantly important for anyone who is feeling low or struggling. Love yourself! Today focus on the parts of you that are fantastic, fun, capable. Remind yourself of your strengths. Be kind to you.

Let's be honest, your Adoption Profile book is one of the MOST important determining factors in being chosen by an expectant parent. Our goal is that when a potential birthparent goes through their stack of Adoption Profile books that YOURS is the one they REMEMBER. Our Adoption Profile books say what they need to say and do not say what they shouldn't. Every energy is put into representing you authentically, and in a light that really allows the viewer to get to know you! We... also make sure we/you approach the important topics so often ignored in Adoption Profile books. We take out the worry, the mistakes, and the anxiety for this part of your journey. We work with you to create a brilliant product, and we will be here to support you every step of this journey. You can email, text or call us anytime! Our goal is to give you hope, kindness and the help you deserve to lift yourself up during this journey. You deserve to get ahead and do the best you can to make your dreams become a reality - You are worth it. . . #adoptionislove #adoption #adoptionprofessionals #adoptionpro #adoptionprofilebook #adoptionprofiles #birthmom #firstmom #canadianadoption #canadaadoption #waitingfamilies #canadianadoption #ontarioadoption #adoptiveparents

Lol. Happy New Year Friends!

AdoptionProfiles.ca 05.01.2021

We have a few families finishing up their home studies right now, waiting for agencies to open up to register. It’s a rough time for them with the holidays, with covid. It’s kind of a tough experience to be waiting and then waiting some more - especially with another year passing in a few days. We are thinking of you....

From us to you - Happy Holidays. And if not happy, then at least manageable. We are thinking of you all!

It is a bizzare time living in quarantine is it not my friends. I read this today and quite loved it. It reminded me to pay attention to clearing instead of fighting that which we can not change.

I’m seeing a lot of posts from my fellow mommies about their journey as teen moms. I love reading these stories and seeing these adorable photos of your little... ones. I do, however, want to use this moment to touch base on a subject I do not often speak of publicly. Although unintentional, I was initially taken aback by these posts. It felt like a punch in the gut for me, and let me tell you why. I did not keep my baby. I was only 16. I was terrified. I was alone. I was homeless. I was not ready to be a mother and that is okay. Before I was Salem’s mommy, I was Bodhi’s mommy. My son Bodhi was born 5 days before my 17th birthday. He went home with his family 2 days after I gave birth. I found his beautiful parents through an adoption agency while I was pregnant. Bodhi is almost 5 years old now and he was the final puzzle piece his family needed to become complete. Salem is 10 months old now and they are both loved immensely. This is an important time to advocate for a woman’s right to choose, whether it be to parent, to adopt, or to terminate. These are all equally important roles and a vital turning point in any woman’s life. I have personally experienced every one of these options, and today I am very grateful I still have my right to choose. Want to be featured? Meet Laura & Chris *Hoping to adopt a baby girl* We are a fun, committed, and experienced family, prayerfully awaiting a daughter to complete our family through adoption. We already love you and cannot wait to connect!... We know that a family with multiple biological children already is not the average that you will come across on an adoption website but we like to think that sets us apart! We will certainly not claim to be perfect parents, but we ARE experienced, and we are so excited at the hopes of adopting a baby girl into our loving and caring family environment. . . #adoptionislove #adoption #adoptionprofessionals #adoptionpro #adoptionprofilebook #adoptionprofiles #birthmom #firstmom #canadianadoption #canadaadoption #waitingfamilies #adoptingincanada #ontarioadoption

In past years, Adopt4Life has recognized World Adoption Day with shared pictures of smiley face hands. We intended to help spread awareness for adoption and cel...ebrate the adoptive families in our Parent2Parent Support Network. We're an adoptive parents' association, providing support for adoptive parents to help children heal from trauma and loss, but we were missing so much. We didn't do enough to acknowledge that this day is painful for many. We're committed to doing better - learning, growing, and listening. In honour of the complexities this day brings, this year we're sharing quotes from everyone in the adoption constellation with honest thoughts on what World Adoption Day means to them. Supporting adoptive families and honouring adoptees and birth families doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. We encourage you take the time to read, reflect, and listen alongside us. See more

While we aren’t always updating social media - we are always working for our clients. And while we have an online regisrty - a lot of our clients don’t join it as they prefer to have their adoptions managed by agencies (internet matches can be complicated and aren’t for everyone - first/birth families often prefer to work with agencies instead of the internet). So often we have matches we never post online. The point is this - whatever you need and whatever your comfort level is, it is important to trust yourself! . . #adoptionislove #adoption #adoptionprofessionals #adoptionpro #adoptionprofilebook #adoptionprofiles #birthmom #firstmom #canadianadoption #canadaadoption #waitingfamilies

What wonderful news! Congratulations! Hi! I just wanted to let you know that we have been matched with a beautiful, healthy baby girl and the revocation period is now up!... We loved these beautiful and powerful words shared by @thegracebond and just had to share with our #BraveLove community. "I don’t have many pregnant pictures... of me at 16. Maternity and weekly bump pictures weren’t a thing back in 2004, and especially not for a teen pregnancy. I dealt with a lot of good girl shame. I have a hand full, but I wish I had more. This one is my last belly picture, just about 40 weeks and being induced the next morning. Yes, I know I get huge when pregnant. I AM only 4 foot 10.5 inches so my babies had no where to go but out I was tired, sore and very ready to meet her, but also dreading saying goodbye to her. Such a complex state to be in. We are approaching her birthday next week. Not just any birthday but the BIG 16! The same age I was when I brought her into the world. With covid-19 ruining visits we had planned in the past months and uncertain when I will get to physical wrap my arms around her again...my heart is heavy tonight. Tears fall. I miss her. I miss these moments (sometimes) when it was just her and I. But I also love her parents, genuinely for being everything they promised to be 16 years ago. They have raised her so well and included me as their family, a part of her puzzle piece. But, a birth momma can appreciate adoption relationships yet cry sometimes too when that distance feels so big. Such a complex state to be in. Adoption always is." - @thegracebond See more
