What are highly processed foods? Highly processing a food is usually manipulated with multiple processes and ingredients. These foods are engineered by experts. Think mad scientist, crazy hair, goggles and a wicked laugh as he develops a food that overrides all of your body’s natural instincts so you literally have no self control. This is the Big Food industry.... The food industry is just as determined to capitalize on your insecurities as the Diet Culture industry is. Where there’s money to be made there’s greedy hands in the cookie jar. Ingredients make food highly processed: Hydrogenated oils Emulsifiers High fructose corn syrup Flavorings Shopping the outskirts of the grocery store, purchasing products that spoil within a reasonable timeframe, anything you could grow in a garden or farm, are good cues when deciding what foods you should be eating. On average the participants ate 500 extra calories (on carbs + fat but not protein) per day while on the high processed food diet. Shopping the outskirts of the grocery store, purchasing products that spoil within a reasonable timeframe, anything you could grow in a garden or farm, are good cues when deciding what foods you should be eating. Nutrition is part of training. How you perform in the gym/game is directly related to how you eat and hydrate. For optimal performance consuming a full meal (complex carbs, protein and some fat) 2-3 hours before your training. Complex carbs take longer to digest; giving you a nice drawn out source of energy. Food consumption (aka energy consumption) less than 2 hours before training (up to 30mins right before exercise) should be simple carbs and some protein. This ensures o...ptimal digestion as simple carbs digest more rapidly. The type of carbohydrate and timing of ingestion is important due to the fact that during intense exercise the body redirects blood flow away from your gut to working muscles. Your gut becomes a bit hypoxic (low in oxygen), making it harder for fluids and nutrients to leave your digestive tract and get into your bloodstream -where you actually need them. Leaving you with lethargic muscles, mental fatigue and indigestion (cue Pepto Bismal commercial that lives rent free in my brain whenever I hear this word). Let’s throw a little nice into the naughty mixture, shall we? These Protein Truffles are loaded with fiber, a bit of protein and just enough sweetness, to leave you happy and satisfied and not blacking out from a sugar high. A gentle reminder that it’s the holidays and you shouldn’t feel guilty for indulging a bit. But be aware to practice mindfulness. Do you genuinely want it? How do you feel physically and mentally? Are you in a state of stress or bliss? Savour every momen...t. Alright, now let’s get cooking! Chocolate Holiday Protein Truffles 1 tin chickpeas 540ml, drained and rinsed 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup 1/4 cup natural peanut butter (or any nut butter) 1/4 cup coconut oil 3 tsp vanilla extract 1/4 tsp sea salt 2 tbsp milk or water 1/4 cup cocoa powder 1/4 cup protein powder 1 cup dark chocolate chips 1 candy cane, smashed Place the chickpeas in a blender and process until only small bits remain. You might have to mash a few with a fork. Melt honey, nut butter, coconut oil in the microwave until smooth. Add to chickpeas along with vanilla and sea salt, blend till combined. Add plant milk, cocoa powder and protein powder, in a food processor and pulse for a couple of minutes until smooth. Depending on your type of protein powder you may have to add a couple of tbsp of water if mixture is too thick. Roll into 1 tbsp balls and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Chill in the fridge for 20 minutes. Melt chocolate chips in a bowl, dip balls into chocolate and sprinkle crushed candy cane on top. Return to the baking sheet and chill until hardened

If you have be in the gym early during the week or Saturdays you’ll most likely have been greeted by Winter dog. Winter is just one of the amazing things that comes with Cheryl aka G48fitness. Cheryl joined the Adrenaline family in the summer bringing her B!tch class with her and is now also teaching ladies strength. Cheryl has fit in so well at Adrenaline it is hard to believe she hasn’t always been here. All that said, it is well overdue that we did a formal introduction.... Adrenaline fam, Cheryl! ********************************** I’m a Certified Professional Accountant (believe it or not) and certified fitness trainer. My partner Jay and I have four kids my daughter, Sydney 18 and three awesome bonus boys. We love to travel L and spend as much time outdoors as possible. I started training 3 years ago at the tender age of 48, which is how G48 Fitness was born. Fitness has always been part of my life and it is my absolute passion. My dream was to create a community of men and women who support, challenge and show up for each other every day. I’m proud to say I did that and it’s still growing. I love training at Adrenaline because it’s not just a gym it’s all about community. The trainers here are top notch and it’s a supportive, not competitive environment. Yesterday new restrictions were placed by the provincial government that affect gyms and fitness classes. Good news? We still get to operate.... However there are some guidelines that must be followed so we can continue to do so. First and foremost, if you have a cough, fever or are feeling generally unwell we ask you do not come to the gym. For the safety of all our members, we will miss seeing your face, however we ask that you wait until you are feeling tip top! In order to help with contact tracings members must swipe key fobs when they enter the facility regardless if the door is locked. This helps create an accurate record of who is coming in and out every day. Class participants, you will be registered under their own names by your instructor. You MUST wear a mask while entering the gym, using change rooms/ bathrooms and while getting to your workout area. You are not required to while actively participating in exercise. Hand sanitizer is mandatory upon entering. Hand sanitizer will also be in the classrooms and the change rooms. You will now have your own spray bottle and towel during your workout. Before you start please grab a bottle and towel from the front desk. When you are finished for the day please return the bottle to the area at front desk and toss your towel in the bin. The bottles will be wiped down before and towels will be washed. Fitness classes are limited to 8 members. We will be adjusting the registration for some of our classes in MINDBODY. We pride ourselves in providing a safe space for all members in multiple aspects, including COVID and we appreciate our Adrenaline family following these guidelines.
