As we complete our 6th week of Telehealth services, we are thankful for our team, clients, and the overall community for the opportunity to provide you with ongoing support. Best practice concussion care continues to be our top priority, now as always, as our team has turned to virtual platforms to support the evidence-based interdisciplinary concussion rehabilitation that our patients and community rely on. With this in mind, the ACC team is stepping up to minimize barriers ...that would prevent clients from accessing needed concussion assessment or rehabilitation during this time. As of this past Monday, April 27, 2020, we are pleased to offer further relief by waiving co-pay fees for ICBC clients during the COVID-19 crisis. Please contact our office for more info at [email protected] We are all in this together, stay home and stay safe!

Trying to stay productive and mentally healthy from home? Here are TIME Magazine's top 5 tips . 1Location: Dedicate a spot in your house that is comfortable and that you associate with work. When you leave your work, leave that spot. 2Find a Buddy: Find a colleague that you can chat with to close the gap in social isolation. You can vent with someone who is going through a similar situation as you! 3Have a Plan: Keep a structured daily schedule. Include quick breaks, t...ake longer walks, or even do a load of laundry. 4Think About How You Are Communicating: Go beyond email that can better replicate the in-person office experience. Screen-sharing while video conferencing helps people get on the same page. 5Remember Everyone Works Differently: Not every employee wants to work from home and the shift can be stressful. Communicate with individuals struggling with the change. . . . #workingfromhome #stayhome #stopthespread #coronavirus #acc #healthandwellness #quarentine #community #vancouver #bc #communicating #bchealth #advanceconcussionclinic #staystructured #productivity See more

Caring for your neck after a concussion . When at home, it is important to ensure you are caring for your neck, as it may be a long time before manual therapy from a clinician can be done: 1Posture: Your head should be over your shoulders and you should avoid poking the chin forward. The shoulders should be slightly back, the core engaged, and the lower back not arched. Imagine a string coming out of the top of your head pulling you upright. 2Range of motion: Pract...ice turning your head ten times left to right, up and down, and side to side. Be mindful of any dizziness, and go slowly if it occurs. 3Stretching tight muscles: All stretches should be held for up to 2 minutes daily for maximum benefit. You can break this up into 30 second intervals. 4Strengthening: Chin tucks, theraband rows, and resisted isometric strengthening are all safe and effective strengthening exercises for neck pain. 5Self-massage or self-release: Various massage techniques can be self-applied to muscles of the neck and shoulders, as well as the use of tennis balls. 6Modalities (ice, heat, at-home TENS machines): Check with your clinician to see if these modalities are right for you. Heat will help to loosen tight muscles, whereas ice will help to calm irritated nerves and migraine headaches. . . . #neck #neckpain #neackhealth #concussion #concussionrehab #whiplast #stayhome #stayhealthy #vancouver #health #concussionawareness #acc #bc #britishcolumbia See more
