Every wonder why sailing is so special to so many people? Family, friends, fun, adventure, nature, freedom, belonging, serenity are just some words to describe sailing. This video nicely captures why we, at Advantage Boating, love sailing so much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qplEXeNnJr4&feature=youtu.be

Presentations are on Thursday Jan. 7th at 7pm and Thursday Jan. 28th at 7pm. Hope you can join us. For anyone who needs a reminder of why "Sailing by the Lee" is a bad idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQDt1Xk74Mk
Congratulations Bryan! Another happy Basic Cruising 2020 graduate who also just purchased his first keelboat - a C&C 27! Welcome, Bryan to the Ottawa Sailing community.
Do you know how to handle an emergency using your VHF radio? Don't wait until it's too late. Obtain your VHF maritime radio operator certificate via our online course.
Sometimes when bubble gum and duct tape don't do the trick, you need to get creative with some shock cord, elastics, zip ties and electrical tape to get you to your next destination.
Kevin brought a smile to my face this morning as I marked his Basic Cruising exam. One question asks: "Name 4 important considerations for a good anchorage". Kevin answered: 1. Check the tide tables 2. Check your chart 3. Have enough rode out 4. Turn on your anchor light at night... Kevin added a 5th important consideration: "A good bottle of wine". ..... SO VERY TRUE!
Become a better boater. VHF & Navigation courses start soon and can be taken in the comfort of your favourite living room chair.
All aboard kids, sailing is a family activity! #ottawatourism #advantageboating #familyactivities

Congratulations to Mike and Joanne, who jumped into the sailing lifestyle with both feet this summer. Starting with a Basic Cruising course, they learned to sail with Advantage Boating and now purchased a beautiful 35' Beneteau Oceanis sailboat! Welcome Aboard! #dreambig #LIVELOVESAIL #sailinglife #learntosail #ottawariver
Thank you to everyone who participated in our "Tie a Bowline" challenge. The Bowline is a sailor's 'super knot' and used to tie a fixed loop at the end of a line. What makes this knot special is that is easy to untie even after having been pulled under strong loads. Practical applications include fastening genoa sheets to the genoa, attaching a halyard to the head of a sail, securing a line to an anchor or tying up unruly skippers!
WOW - I'm feeling so inspired!! We love sharing our passion for sailing with others. Tonight on our Zoom "Learn about Sailing" we had 53 attendees! Thank you to everyone for your time, your enthusiasm, your questions and for joining me this evening to learn a bit more about this wonderful sport. I hope to see you on the water soon!
It might be raining and wet today but the sun will come out again #livelovesail. #learntosail #lifeisgood

Congratulations and welcome aboard to the Advantage Boating Instructor team! Nicholas, Marc, Scott & Mike are Sail Canada's newest Basic Cruising instructors. These fellas exemplify what it means to adjust your sails as the winds change. Despite the challenges faced with hosting an instructor clinic during COVID-19, these 4 passionate sailors and instructors followed the wind and their IE's, Kim & Diane, over Zoom and then onto the Ottawa river to complete their course. Advantage Boating is thrilled to have you as part of our instructor team and AB family!
There is still space in our VHF-DSC radio course starting Wednesday, August 19 @ 7 PM. Knowing how to use a VHF radio and the DSC feature properly might save your life or very much help with a rescue of someone else. https://advantageboating.com//c/vhf-operators-certificate/
This week our instructor Sarah set off for Kingston to teach a new sailing family some basics to help them enjoy their new sailboat. Together they spent two days on Nancy O and one day on their new boat. Here is what they shared with us. These experiences and stories make teaching sailing so worthwhile! We look forward to sailing with this great family again! "Hi Advantage Boating, Quick note to let you know that the boys and I had a fantastic experience learning to sail w...ith Sarah this week. She's a wonderful ambassador for Advantage Boating and sailing in general and has inspired us to get out and enjoy ourselves on the water. Thank you so very much for being flexible to accommodate us this week, for allowing us to sail on the Nancy O, and for lining us up with such a wonderful instructor. We hope to sail with the Advantage team again. ~ML, Kingston Aug 14, 2020
A little mid-week reminder! #gosailing #livelovesail #ottawatourism
