This week we will be forgoing the throwback Thursday and instead taking time this Wednesday to turn our attention to the men and women of the Armed Forces who s...o passionately and resolutely serve our country to protect our freedoms and our way of life, both past and present. There have been a number of Wanderers players and members who have given up time to serve their country, and we want to take a moment to shed light on a few. In the photo above you will see the 1956 Wanderers. What you may not see is the service these men have given. Tony Last, a former Wanderers President, and Jimmy Hamilton who both gave up years of their lives to enlist in the Royal Air Force were omnipresent in the early Wanderers sides. You can also see Roy Powell, a veteran of the Canadian Army, and Jim Wheller who served as a paratrooper in Palestine in 1947 as Israel was being established. We also want to make a big acknowledgement of one of our current members, Jessie Pustai, who has been separated from his clubmates as he is currently posted out of province serving with the Canadian Armed Forces. We want to say a deep and heartfelt thank you to every person who has served, in any capacity or role, while taking a moment to acknowledge the sacrifice and celebrate the lives of those who didn’t return from their respective conflicts. We thank you. We honour you. We will not forget you. #lestweforget

***PROGRAM UPDATE*** Advantage Rugby Development, in cooperation with Aurora Barbarians RFC, is pleased to announce that we are working diligently to host our comprehensive off season training programs for 2020 and 2021. At the moment all plans are on hold as York Region has been returned modified to Modified Stage 2. Our hope is to run two training programs this off-seasons.... We will share further details, including start dates/times, permitted numbers and age grades, when public health gives our facility the go ahead for indoor sport training. Our successful training programs are designed to improve your rugby skills, your agility and your quickness (rugby match fitness) while preparing you for the 2021 rugby season. The Advantage Rugby Development program has been working locally in York Region for 9 years and is a proven method that provides local youth rugby players a competitive edge over their competition by taking a professional approach to training. Our program has helped boys and girls play pro and representative rugby for regional, provincial and national teams. If you have any questions about Advantage Rugby Development programs, please contact Sandy Townsend or Ryan Stickle: [email protected] See you on the pitch!

The pistol drill that we use in the Rugby Bricks passing program is one of the most taught drills in rugby. Here is how to do it so that you can make the most f...rom the drill. 1. Start with the ball just above hip height and if your hands are too small simply have it so that the passing hand supports the weight of the ball from underneath 2. Make sure our feet are shoulder-width apart and that our chest isn't leaning towards the side where the ball is positioned 3. When we go to extend the arm make sure that you're not winding up to send the ball further but simply extend the passing arm out straight in front of the body and don't overpunch or rotate the core Repeat and work on getting the ball the distance it needs to go. Tag a mate who needs to work on their weaker passing hand.
