Casting Call *please read fully* Yellow lab to double these dogs, must look exactly the same 70 ish pounds.... MUST have a very high toy drive, looking for a dog that without hesitation grab a toy and tug in any environment. Must be friendly and outgoing. Owner must be willing to send dog to set with trainers (with new covid regulations owners cannot come to set). Please send a small video of dog tugging along with pictures.

This big handsome cutie is pouting over the cooler weather moving in already Back to school time and a lot going on with that for September I have opted to just push back the startup of Classes until the end of the month! With the weather changing so quick I have made the decision to start Moving all classes indoors! ... Indoor locations for classes is in Stonewall At the Quarry K9 Daycamp and Resort right on 67 hwy at the lights on #7 (large green building off the service road) for the fall/winter months. Puppy class to start tomoro we will continue as planned with our outdoor 6pm to grab up the last nice evenings so no change to that current enrolled class but unfortunately running a 7:15 class just wont work before dark This will mean that Obediende and beginner tricks classes will start mid sept. Sorry about the inconvenience I know your guys were eager to get back out. Just going to give a small break between classes while we get rolling with the new school year. I will also offer a reactive dog class as well starting the next round. Thank you for your understanding! One of the First questions I ask clients who come to me for advice on behavior or training for obedience is, Why did you Choose this breed? So many times the... answer is, Because they are really cool dogs! This, of course, is not a valid reason for choosing one breed over another. When you see a dog doing what he was bred to do, harkening back to his ancestors whispering into their ears, telling them exactly how they should perform the task....well, it can make you weep. EVERY dog needs a job, a purpose to validate them. A job that makes them stand proud and causes his tail to wag and his heart to smile. Dogs were bred to work alongside humans, and they consider that a high calling.....along with educating us..... And if one does not have sheep for a Collie or rabbits for a Beagle, or rats for a Terrier, there are still other functions for them to perform within their households. Our job is to find that activity, introduce it to the dog, and enjoy the companionship. Theres a woman that jogs with her GSD every day by the Indiana K9 Learning Center. She puts a prong collar on her huge working dog and off they go. We had a nice visit over the fence the other day. I complimented her on her dogs manners. I stood about six feet from her when we initially met and he was relaxed and unconcerned. (And no, I didnt ask if I could pet him). Thats when I find out what a mean owner she is. Her large GSD carries a doggy style backpack with water in it and shes been told thats mean. She stopped at a yard sale, bought some books, put them in the backpack and she was told thats mean. Shes been chastised for running her dog with her because running a dog is mean. Im not sure why someone would feel that a 100 pound working breed isnt capable of carrying 10 pounds of books but someone did. Id say that person has never looked up what a GSD was bred for. Its bred for work! I know a Canadian that has huge herds of sheep free ranging on hundreds of acres. He has two border collies that he sends out as a team to round them up and bring them in to be counted. Theyd go out before the sun was up and by mid afternoon theyd have them gathered in a large pen for him. Hed do a head count, open the gate and off theyd go. Imagine the intelligence and duration those dogs have to do that seven days a week! Now take those dogs and put them in an apartment. Yowza! How about the frustrated woman who brought her German Short Haired Pointer in for classes...AKCs website said the breed is "easy to train" so she got one. Shes a white collar wife with a young son who lives in a suburban neighborhood. That breed may be easy to train for a hunter or someone that is experienced with independent, strong willed breeds but she was really struggling with him. His energy level, strong personality and tenacity is a requirement for the job he was bred to do but a typical owner will really struggle with this breed. Can we all agree on something right here, right now? Every dog that is in a home, in a shelter, in the show ring, or anywhere else comes from someone that was breeding dogs for a purpose. It may be way back in the dogs pedigree but its there. Hunting, fighting, chasing, pulling, retrieving, protecting, patrolling, killing...your dog laying at your feet right now has ancestors that did at least one of those tasks very, very well. Those instincts dont disappear when they walk through your front door and become your family pet. Theres a reason terriers are tough! Because you have to be a tenacious little shit to go down a hole after a rodent bigger than you knowing youre likely to get bitten. Theres a reason you cant get your beagles nose off the ground during agility classes. Watch a youtube video of beagles in the field! Theres a reason your whippet wants to chase every squirrel in the yard. Watch a youtube video of sighthounds lure coursing! Theres a reason that cattle dogs go in low and nip anything moving. Watch a youtube video of them working cattle! Heres the kicker...a cattle dog that goes in low and nips is probably the result of someones responsible breeding. Same with the beagle, the whippet and the border collie. Those are desirable behaviors in each breed. Understanding the propensity of certain behaviors in breeds and mixes will help owners understand where the behavior is coming from. It doesnt mean the dog gets a free pass for the behavior, but someone looking for an agility dog may not want to go with a bloodhound "because I just love their ears" or a herding breed "because I want a dog to lay around all weekend with." All of us in the dog industry, including shelters and rescues, have a responsibility to the dogs were in charge of and the people that want to add them to their family. OPENING DELAYED There are a few finishing touches that need to be put on the Off-Leash Dog Park before it is safe for our furry friends and their owners to use.... We did have the dedication ceremony on September 10th, but ask for your patience as we get everything ready. We really appreciate all of the enthusiasm and excitement in the community for the new park. We hope to have it open and functioning very soon, so please stay tuned!!! Until the new off-leash park is open, the off-leash area in Quarry Park will remain available. The Town of Stonewall is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of the NEW Off-Leash Dog Park on September 10, 2020. Everyone is pretty busy this fall so we are going to adjust a bit with the upcoming classes to help all of you looking to do fall class! Tuesday Sept 1st I have a 4 week reactive dog class available: runs for 4 weeks at 7:15 Only 4 spots available to keep this class size small (2 spots left) ... Wedn evening at 6PM will still be our puppy class starting Sept 9th (one spot left) 7:15 will be for returning dogs for Obedience level 1 Unfortunatly I am only running these two evening through fall and will be taking a month off from classes before we fire up with indoor classes for winter! Great points made and this article speaks to me as I myself did NOT choose Moose out I spent a year reaching out to breeders and slowly dwindling my selection down until I spoke to someone I knew I had to have a pup from. She started out with asking all the right questions about what I wanted from a dog .... we hit it off and from there I told her what I hoped to do with the pup. A great breeder knows their dogs knows their traits and what they will most likely excel in. Whe...n a breeder looks out for their pup throughout their lifetime, doesnt over breed their bitches and gives you complete honesty about the breed and dogs your looking into their worth talking to. Do your research when purchasing a pup and be sure your not supporting the backyard breeder trying to make a quick buck but not making sure the health and quality is there in the dogs. Registration says a lot also as does Titles in the show ring shows their commitment to their lines their titles on their dogs and therefore a great idea what pups are capable of. So much consideration when looking into getting a puppy but I am always here to bounce questions off!!

My dog is not my child. My dog is not my furbaby. I am not her mother. ... My dog is my friend. She is my partner and my companion. To treat her like a child, to infantilize her and make it seem as though she needs my constant coddling or protection, would be unfair to her. She is an adult carnivore that I have brought into my human world. Because of that it is my responsibility as her owner: 1) To communicate with her in a way she can understand. 2) To provide leadership, discipline and mutual respect. 3) To understand her instincts and needs, and provide appropriate outlets for them. 4) To train her and provide her the skills to function effectively in our human world, including acceptable manners and behaviors. Our dogs deserve to be given responsibility and allowed to be adult creatures, not perpetual babies. Please, dont try to make them tiny humans, they arent and they dont want to be. Dogs are wonderful because they are dogs. Let them be dogs. Teach them to be good ones. - K. Carter
