CBC Gem did a good show on refugees in rural Nova Scotia, including a focus on Amherst, Oxford Frozen Foods (Oxford is where the family that Advocate for Refugees sponsored now lives and work), and Pictou County/New Glasgow.
Kim Thuy lived in Granby, Quebec (Eastern Townships) when she and her family first arrived in Canada as refugees (a few miles from my home town) -- Susan Boyd
This is a lovely, evocative book
PARTY!!! The party to celebrate the Alboushes' first year in Canada will be on Saturday, Feb. 11th at the old Murphy store from 2 - 4 p.m. A pot luck meal. There is only a wood stove there so if you have something hot, please have it in a slow cooker. Tea and coffee will be provided. Bring a non-alcoholic beverage, if you wish. We are ordering a cake from the store and Ari has put together a photo album. The photo album costs $90.00. We'll have a money dish there for people t...o contribute a few dollars, if they wish. This is open to the whole community so spread the word. Everyone is welcome to celebrate this momentous occasion.
This article has a focus on the Alboush family and their move to Oxford, NS for work -- and how they miss Advocate!
