Today is the National Indigenous Peoples' Day. It is a day to acknowledge and celebrate the rich culture, heritage and contributions of the Indigenous people in Canada. As settlers, we live on their unceded land. It's our responsibility to learn about the different nations, communities, histories, and to educate ourselves on the significant amount of injustice that they face. And that is something that needs to happen far beyond this one day a year. We perform on the unceded territories of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh & Musqueam First Nations. We will do better in supporting the First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, their rights, and their fight for justice. Violence against their communities is ongoing, and so should our allyship be.
Breonna Taylor would have been 27 years old today. One of the many Black and Indigenous lives violently cut short. They all matter. They are all part of the narrative. They all need justice. #SayHerName

Powerful, devastating, inspiring, and loving words to listen to, and to act on. https://www.youtube.com/watch

We know that sharing a picture isn't nearly enough. As a small company, we can do our part in educating ourselves, listening, speaking out when necessary, and being committed to promoting equality and equity, as well as incorporating those structures into our own practices. Canada is not immune to racism. Black and Indigenous bodies are constantly subjected to both physical and emotional violence. We need to be aware, and we need to do our part in standing up as respectful allies.
It's been a challenging time for everyone, including for artists and arts organizations. Which is why we thought we'd share a bit of good news. Our production of "The How and The Why" is going to be remounted at the Evergreen Cultural Centre and the Surrey Art Center in February 2021 as part of their 2020/2021 Seasons! We don't know what will happen in the future, but we're holding on to hope. This wonderful show about two extraordinary, brilliant women holds a very special ...place in our hearts, and we're incredibly grateful that we get the chance to bring it to more people, and we're keeping our fingers crossed! Stay healthy, stay safe, hold on to hope, and keep making and experiencing art! This too shall pass! <3
