THIS stuff! THIS is the miracle product. Here are two 106-year-old glockenspiel bars, one before restoration and one after restoration. I can see my own reflection in it! AUTOSOL FTW, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE

In case anyone is curious to hear how the handmade glockenspiel sounds, and a narrative about how it was built. If anyone is interested in seeing the start to finish album of building this, it’s located here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/... https://youtu.be/OJJ_1FPJyTY

This cajón will be framed in the rabbit notches that you can see with purple heart hardwood. The striking surface will be 3/16 bubinga with flamenco guitar string snares mounted on the inside. Place an order and you can have one too! I’m willing to customize the frame materials however you want them. Stay tuned for finished product photos in the next day or two.

Had a very insightful and fun exchange of ideas and tools with Steve Goodchild, who paid me a visit at my repair shop after I paid him a visit at the guitar building and repair studio at Black Forest Wood Company. There are many worlds within the instrument making and repair trade, and although they seem far apart, it's cool to find out that they're not mutually exclusive altogether!

I was hoping that people would go wild over the glockenspiel case I built and place orders, but the next best thing just happened! A friend of mine has gifted me all of the parts of a vintage vibraphone minus the frame. A vibraphone with a frame made out of stained and clear coated exotic hardwood sure would look nice, wouldn’t it? Now to restore these keys and resonators...

Happy Friday night! Do you have a keyboard percussion instrument that needs to be re-strung? Well, you can either bring it to me, or you can follow my step-by-step video. Contains time indexes. I’m demonstrating on a xylophone, but all of the tips and tricks also apply to vibraphone and marimba. Have a great weekend! https://youtu.be/ErZSLBCVzLQ

Full house tonight! Tying-off some loose ends with tympani balanced tension pedal repairs, and revisiting and fine tuning some toms and snares on which I did some tuning and head replacement work a few days ago.

Any time I change a head or tune a drum, I always go inside and tighten the bolts that hold the lugs and other hardware in place. They loosen over time, so it’s an important thing to do!

Introducing the Aeolian Glockenspiel, designed by yours truly, and hand-made by yours truly with a little help from some of my colleagues. All specifications are near the end of the step-by-step album, which you can see by clicking here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/

Teachers! Now that some of you are back in school, be sure to sashay back to your percussion section and make sure that none of your chimes are going to fall off of the wire and injure someone. And if they are, not to worry, because this is one of the cheapest DIY repairs you can possibly do! https://youtu.be/g_YNkfPUqIQ
