Moien & Wëllkomm to the Day 22 track for Aerhyn's Acapella Advent Calendar, that is super late - because of so many reasons! As if yesterday's delay wasn't bad enough, this one was even worse! Salom va xush kelibsiz to Day 21, and time is going by *way* too fast, because we're so close to the end of this year's season of Aerhyn's Acapella Advent Calendar. Apologies for the late post! Today is a very good example of a "I need to do more than just skim the first page of a song before I choose it for the Advent Calendar" moment. The original arrangement I chose turned out to not be an acapella arrangement at all. So what does one do? One quickly arranges their own ver...sion of the song, and it ends up taking up most of the day. Ever since I started the Musical Advent Calendar back in 2015, every holiday season, I've been on contract, most of the time away from home. So usually on Day 21, I sing this song, because it coincided with me flying or driving home from my theatre contract to spend the holidays with my family. Unfortunately, thanks to the global pandemic, there was no work for me this holiday season. So all I can do is arrange my own version of "I'll Be Home For Christmas", and reminisce about the past 5 years. Szia, üdvözlet to Day 20, and a blink of an eye, this 5th season of Aerhyn's Acapella Advent Calendar has just flown by. It's a little tiny miracle that today's track was finished at all. Let me explain: For the past 3 years, I've made sure to do a cover of a Take 6 holiday song. Take 6 is considered the very first acapella R&B/Soul "boy band". Their harmonies are tight, their style is jazzy, their tone is silky smooth. And every year I choose this song when I'm programing th...e season, but by the time it comes to record the song, I don't have the low notes that day to pull of what their bass Alvin Chea can do, and so I have to pick another Take 6 arrangement. Last night, I meant to record this song before I headed to bed. However, I was so drained from my day Elf-ing, I passed out sooner than expected and woke up at 3am going "Oh CRAP! I still have to record Day 20's song!!!". Here's where the miracle comes into play. I started laying down the bass tracks, and realized that I had a lower register that I'd never sung before. So I made sure to tackle the bass part right away, to take advantage of my new super low notes before they disappeared. I'm super proud of this recording! Enjoy those low notes.
