Hello All Firefighter Curlers, Today would have marked the final day of the 2021 Alberta Firefighter Curling Championship Bonspiel. Unfortunately, as well all know due to the crazy world of covid and restrictions this was unable to happen. For a lot of us that look forward to curling and socializing at this event every year this week has been a tough one to miss but we will have to celebrate more next year in Taber. Since we are unable to celebrate the weekend/year togeth...er, tonight as we normally would, we propose tonight at some point everyone garb an ice cold bevy and raise your glass to all of our members and their families!!! We wish everyone a safe and happy year ahead !!! Please mark your calendars for next year's 2022 event in Taber on Jan 26-29/2022. We look forward to seeing everyone then! CHEERS AFFCA Executive

2021 AFFCA Provincial Championship Cancelled After consultation with the 2021 Host Committee in Taber and input from our membership, the Alberta Firefighter Curling Association Executive has, with regret, come to the decision to cancel the AFFCA 2021 Provincial Curling Championship that was to be hosted in Taber, Alberta from January 27th to 30th, 2021. In the interest of safety for both our membership and the general public, it is felt that the health risk to everyone during... the current COVID 19 Pandemic is too high to bring firefighters and their families from different regions together. This is not a decision that has been taken lightly, much consideration has been given to canceling an event that we all look forward to each year. With the cancellation of the 2020 National Championship, the 2021 CFFCA National Championship will again be hosted by PEI in Charlottetown in November 2021. Representing our association in 2021 will be our 2020 Provincial Champions, Team Bartling. Should COVID-19 again require the postponement of the 2021 championship, PEI will forfeit hosting the Canadians and it will move to Saskatchewan in 2022. We are confident our members will support us with this difficult decision. Looking to the future, the AFFCA Executive has unanimously decided to allow the Taber Fire Department to host the 2022 AFFCA Provincial Curling Championship in Taber, Alberta from January 26-29, 2022. We look forward to attending the event in the traditional fashion to which we all have become accustomed, thank you for your patience and understanding! Warm Regards, AFFCA executive

Hello All AFFCA members, We hope that you are doing well in our new world with all the challenges it brings. We are hoping that all of you and your families are healthy and employed. Your AFFCA executive has recently had a meeting and we ourselves are facing a challenge. As most of you know the CFFCA 2020 Championship were postponed in the spring and then later cancelled altogether as they were to be held this fall. ... We, as the executive, are now looking toward our 2021 AFFCA Provincial Championship and we need to consider what the event may look like. We thought it would be valuable information to survey our membership to see what the intentions and comfort level of our players are at this time. A survey has been out to those members who have, over the years, provided an email address when registering to play in our provincial event. If you did not receive an link to the survey by email, please let us know at [email protected] We will be sure to send you the survey link. The average time to fill out the survey is less than one minute, there are only five questions. We are not expecting any of you to predict the future, and we certainly are not going to hold you to your answers, but we are looking for honest and as accurate answers as each of you can give. This process will help the executive and the host committee immensely. There is no space in the survey for comments but please feel free after completing the survey, email your thoughts to [email protected]. Thank you for your assistance.

It’s official. The AFFCA executive received an email earlier this week. The 2020 Championships in PEI that were rescheduled for November have been cancelled.

NEW...NEW...CANCELLED: 2020 Canadian Fire Fighters Curling Championship Nov 6th to 15, 2020 CANCELLED Due to the continued uncertainty surrounding the virus and... their inability to make definite plans for a November championship, the PEI organizing team is concerned that time, effort and financial resources would once again be wasted, especially if there is the second wave many people are predicting. For this reason, and with the approval of the Executive, they feel they will need to cancel this years’ event but are prepared to host the 2021 Championship. NEW!! NEW!! PEI is tentatively planning to now host in March/April 2021. Saskatchewan will now host in 2022. The Saskatchewan Organizing Committee is in agreement with this proposal. The CFFCA Executive have not worked out all the details at this point. We feel this is the right thing to do at this time. Winston and Peter and their committee have done an extremely great job keeping on top of this and we Thank them for their commitment and time. If all goes well we will be able to have a toast to them in the Spring. Thank you to all the players and fans for supporting us in this decision. Al , Dean and Brian.
