Merry Christmas

Agathe Bernard Photography 22.12.2020

Wishing all peace and joy for this holiday time. We’re taking off for a snowy camper mission. Léo blew it and I found out he was giving me a new pair of touring skis! Such a sweet boy! Sending happy hugs to all. Merry Christmas xo

On the darkness day of the year, this incredible sunshine was born 40 years ago! She was kind of a nerd at Uni (one of the most intelligent person I ever met) but when I finally got to know her during our permafrost field class, we hiked this big mountains and all we talked about was all the exotic adventures and romances we were wishing for in life. Not that long after with a side trip to Nunavut, we ended up living in Byron Bay together. She soon after met a sailor, saile...d to indo with a monkey onboard, got attacked by pirates, ended up in California for her first wedding where half the guests including me slept on a trampoline. I move west the year after and we visited at least once a year since then. She eventually met a super solid guy named ryan, had her second child and happily lived in this wild Californian canyon. Looking back, you did get what you wished for Marie, a real adventure of life and love and you even hike with beer in hands now (all of the nerd DNA evolved to black sheep molecule!) Getting to spend time with you marie is always so light, peaceful, fun and when we don’t end up at ER because I food poisoned us, it just feels like home! Thank you for all your light, you are a gift and I feel so lucky to have a friend like you! Until I can plan an adventure that you will remember for the next 40 years, I am sending some photos from the archives. Je t’aime mon amie! Xoxoxo @mariesol #40yearsoflifeandlove

Solstice color spectrum 3/3 from today. Wishing you to find that little flame that keeps it all lit inside and makes you want to laugh, dance, go on road trips, sleep in and enjoy all the little beautiful moments. #nightowltimezone #wintersolstice #ucluelet

Solstice color spectrum 2/3 from today and a little poem that feels so ripe for today : All this weigh that I carried, did not hold me back. It slowed me down, just enough. Anchored me, placing me in the moment Of perfect timing... Of perfect understanding In the most beautiful appreciation For every weight For every person It slowed me down, king enough to finally gain a force So powerful that No other weight No other person Not even myself Could hold me back. #beyondgratefulforall #ucluelet #tofino #vancouverisland #wintersolstice

@dakinitidalwilds the sea weed queen! Over 20 years of collecting sea weed near Jordan River. We spent a few hours exchanging our passions last summer. More on her inspiring work very soon. #seaweedqueen #kelpforest #vancouverisland

I was listening to an inspiring podcast yesterday about Australian Aboriginal views of time.. how our culture typically sees time as linear and how some Australian native communities see time as cycles, some shorter cycle than other to illustrate different cycles of life. Then I started thinking about the way we see time and how Nordic populations are much more closer to that time cycle relationship rather than populations closer to the equator because of the seasonal changes... that we have to adjust to constantly. I personally find so much confort into the changing seasons and when I lived in Australia not living the seasons change really made me home sick. Time has always been fascinating to me, probably one of the reason why I studied as a geologist and was fascinated by how life adjusted to time on this planet, the grand extinctions and how these cycles of dead were opportunities for new living worlds in earth. Going pretty deep while editing these days with hope for really shallow hilarious belly laughs soon. @waterpeoplepodcast ** side note, this is the sister photo of the my life after life image who one @natgeo honorable mention aerial of the year. I have never shared the other photos but as you can see this glacial estuary is a place where trees end up their life before reaching the pacific. At the border of BC and AK. Back to editing. Xo

What if we design new systems with love as a guiding principle? So much of our approach as society frames systems the other way around, fear based rather than positively reinforcing good behaviour. So much thinking while editing. It feels like we are so close to the implementing better ways and solutions can be as simple as reframing our outlook. What do you think? Where do you fell you can make a difference? Image captured while shooting for @rugged.coast.research.society [email protected] and editing this short for @plasticoceanscanada @surfrider @oceanlegacy And pondering about deep conversations with @exxpedition_ we’ve had. So many groups focused on the issue! See more

Risking his life to save the planet from plastic! So cool he doesn’t even have Instagram (true story!) and do you guys know what else is attractive these days after saving the world from plastic? It’s VOTING! Dear America friends, I understand how not voting is an act of not taking part in the disfunctional system you guys are living in BUT let’s not forget all the blood that was spilled in order for democracy to live. Voting is an important duty. In some country such as Switzerland voting as a woman is only 10 years older than I am (and I am not that old @bodhi_patil !). And I bet the vote you make will circum ripple all the way to plastic pollution solutions (or problem). Voting ripples intension for what we care for. #votingishot @rugged.coast.research.society @parley.tv @ Vancouver Island, BC, Canada

We did it, submission sent off! Tagged team with @susanehitchcock the most productive grant writer ever in the early morning hours. Script, interview roster, community relevance, etc. Storyhive here we come, our local hero edition is half pirate, half robot, half Paralympic snowboarder.. and that makes him 1.5 human, therefore hero! Love him and Kayleen (1.55 human as without her ty would not have made it!). Not a perfect video but so is life.. not perfect! We are all doing our best #findinghissealegs #paralympichero #sailorpiratesnowboarder

A couple frames from my latest near miss adventure with @tyturner14 and the sea queen @fromsnowtosail. We planned a sailing day and broke down 10 minutes later .. had to call the rescue boat and Carl the diggy helped save the day! No plates or guitars were thrown to channel our disappointment but I got some good sound bites of the heat on the deck. This makes me love this couple even more! Making it work through loosing two legs and living on a sailboat is the ultimate life ...maximizing experience. Just on a procrestination break from working very late and eating frozen berries with chia and yogurt ( it somehow keep me awake to eat frozen berries ). I was told by one of my mentor that if you shower just before midnight and pretend to wake up again, you can put your system into crazy production mode. Trying ! It’s going to be a looooong night! And stoked for all of these grant applications coming together. Mmmm back to berries and more editing.. #lovalherofilm #paraolympics2022 #sealegs @ Vancouver Island, BC, Canada

Part 2 of the remote clean up.. its messy out there, as you can see there is tons of giant styrofoam blocks, barrels, ropes.. so much plastic pollution is generated from local fish & oyster farms. Still these guys kept it light and ended up the afternoon with a killer (as of it might kill you) session @rugged.coast.research.society @parley.tv @ Vancouver Island, BC, Canada

Protect what you love! Part 1- What a mission this passed weekend, I honestly did not think you could laugh so hard and have such a great time cleaning up remote shorelines! The team included 14 top quality humans, 4 dogs, one toddler and 4 boats. We worked hard, played hard and laugh even harder. Those are the trips to live for! Thank you @rugged.coast.research.society @parley.tv @ Vancouver Island, BC, Canada
