Another great idea to spread some sunshine this holiday season! Those with kiddos who like to draw/colour/create - check it out! :)

Residential schools opened in 1876 and were designed to remove Indigenous children from their communities, families, and culture. It is estimated that 150,000 c...hildren were placed in the system, and that 6000 children died while attending residential schools. The last residential school closed in 1996. Let that sink in. The negative impacts and trauma of this cultural genocide, as well as the continued oppression and systemic racism against Indigenous people, is still apparent today. We must do better. Today we honour the healing journey of the survivors of residential schools and their families, and honour the memory of those who who did not survive.

What a wonderful idea and way to spread some Christmas cheer to those who may be separated from family this Christmas. Another awesome idea we’ve heard of (if your bubble is musically inclined) is to arrange to sing a few carols outside a LTC or retirement home for the residents who can have the windows cracked to hear at a safe distance beautiful way to keep that #payitforwardmerrickville momentum going!
