Welcome to the new AHIP Signal! https://www.ahipsignal.ca/ I’m very excited to show off the evolution of the AHIP Signal to all our members. It’s a project I’ve had in mind since becoming the Editor-in-Chief. Changing the delivery platform from print to PDF to a website allows us much more flexibility. The website allows for easy reading from a desktop, smart phone and/or tablet. We also now have an ‘archives’ section going all the way back to the Fall 2017 issue. New content... will still go up quarterly, with an email sent out to members letting you know that those articles were updated. I really hope you enjoy the new format, and I welcome any feedback you may have. Chris Arnold Editor-in-Chief AHIP Signal

*the following is from the latest email sent by AHIP on March 21st, 2020* Dear AHIP Members: We have heard from a number of you this week with concerns for your personal safety and the safety of your patients. While AHIP is not a regulated college under the RHPA and do not receive health updates in the same way regulated professions do, we will continue to do our best to provide you as hearing healthcare professionals only factual news and content.... Ministry of Health Yesterday, the Chief Medical Officer of Health issued a directive for Health Care Providers (Regulated Health Professionals or Persons who operate a Group Practice of Regulated Health Professionals). This directive requires all health care providers in Ontario to immediately cease all non-essential and elective services, or reduce them to minimal levels, until further notice. Allowable exceptions can be made for time sensitive circumstances to avert or avoid negative patient outcomes or to avert or avoid a situation that would have a direct impact on the safety of patients. AHIP advises Hearing Instrument Specialists H.I.S. and Hearing Instrument Dispensers H.I.D. to use your clinical judgement to determine where your care is essential to clients. If you choose to continue to practice, please take every precaution to protect your clients and yourselves and utilize telepractice wherever possible. AHIP recommends that during the pandemic all members follow the adamant directives of Ontario public health officials in relation to social distancing, self-isolation etc. If you are a dispensary owner, it is important that you recognize that this is not business as usual and take steps to implement the Chief Medial Officer of Health directive immediately. If your dispensary has ceased operations temporarily during this period it is important that you post notice to patients informing them how they can access their practitioner for urgent matters. This information, previous and future updates on this issue will also be provided on our website http://www.helpmehear.ca. Please be assured that AHIP has and will be monitoring the novel coronavirus pandemic closely and will update you with any new developments. Please let us know how you are doing and e-mail COVID-19 questions or concerns directly to mailto:[email protected] and/or mailto:[email protected] Stay well, look forward to hearing from you. Best Regards, Joanne & Maggie

Dear AHIP Members: It is with great sadness to notify you of the passing of long-standing member Ray Lachapelle on Saturday, February 29, 2020. Ray was in practice for 49 years, he graduated from the Sheridan College, Hearing Instrument Program in 1977 and successfully completed the Ontario Ministry of Health Level II exam in 1991. Ray never missed a Symposium and hosted the 1995 Symposium in North Bay. Ray served on the Board of Directors for both the Ontario Hearing Aid Ass...ociation OHHA and the Association of Hearing Instrument Practitioners of Ontario AHIP. Whenever the Board requested help or assistance, Ray was there. Ray was also throughout his career an avid supporter of the International Hearing Society I.H.S. and attended their conventions and events regularly. AHIP is proud of Ray Lachapelle as a pioneer in the profession and extend our admiration for his dedication to the profession, support of others within the hearing healthcare field and most of all his compassion and dedication to his patients throughout the years. AHIP offers our sincere condolences to Rose and all of Ray’s family and friends. The family is preparing a celebration of Ray’s life around March break, when we are provided the details, we will post on the AHIP website and Facebook page. Warm Regards, Maggie
