As many of you may know, I don’t really speak much on this social format, but I am wanting to share. This is going to be a bit of a personal, emotional post rather than strictly professional. I am of the thinking, that as long as no one is getting hurt mentally or physically, that everyone is entitled to how they think and feel. A professional client relationship has just ended because I made a request to modify how we approached their treatments. I did not refuse treatment... and did not condemn them for their views and behaviour regarding this Pandemic. They were not happy with the modifications and left in anger, without receiving a treatment. They are now, with the help of friends who have never been to my massage practice nor been treated by me, trying to target my business via business reviews to bring my star rating down. So that my online presence is looked down on, perhaps ignored, and that I don’t get new business. Once a negative review is up, there is nothing I can do. Nothing more than what I have done; post on the reviews that they do not show up in my client file database therefore have not been to my place of business and to contact me directly if they have questions or concerns. As a business that has had struggles during this Pandemic, it saddens me at how vulnerable this situation has made me feel. I want to defend myself, but that means that I’m taking it personally, which I really can’t, and not being professional. Even writing this feels like my way of defending myself, which in turn feels unprofessional. Perhaps to have people validate me? (Please don’t, I’m honestly just sharing). I just feel hurt and at a loss. I think I’m more interested in seeing if anyone else has run into these issues, if it has affected business, and how they have handled it? This of course does highlight how thankful I am to the referral and word of mouth that my current clients and friends provide me. I never want anyone thinking that I take that for granted.
