My work is all about texture, this piece is all about the roots of family, the roots that bind us. This particular piece uses recycled alpaca, recycled cotton, cotton, and merino yarns #thetiesthatbind #tree #treeroots #aholmes #aholmesknit #knit #knitting #knittersofinstagram #art #design #contemporaryart #fiberart #fiberartist #textileart #textiledesign #recycledmaterials #texture

One of the artists that has influenced my flag series is David Hammons. My own piece (last pic) is my own interpretation of the deglamorization of American culture, and the narrowing of the mind Posted @withregram @highsnobiety February is Black History Month.... David Hammons was born in Springfield, Illinois in 1943. He moved to Los Angeles in 1962, attending CalArts from 1966-1968, and the Otis Art Institute from 1968-1972, where he was inspired by artists such as Bruce Nauman, John Baldessari, Charles White, and Chris Burden. In 1974, Hammons settled in New York City. Over the past five decades, Hammons has created a versatile body of work that explores the experience of African-American life and the role of race within American society. His most notable work includes 'African-American Flag', providing colors from Marcus Garvey's African flag to the stars and stripes. The simplicity of this gesture suggests that just as the flag has the ability to transform, so too does the nation and people it represents. : NY Post (Peter Butler), MoMa, Pinkney Herbert/Jennifer Secor, Timothy Greenfield-Sanders #aholmes #aholmesknit #fiberart #fiberartist #art #artist #textile #textileart #blm #beanally #sustainability #sustainable #influence #inspiredby #inspiration #blackhistorymonth #modernart #contemporaryart #givecredit

Some patterns are easier than others... this new one is based on Tree Roots... the feeling of belonging, rooted to something or someone... these days that seems even more important than ever. Family, those that are chosen, and those by blood are so important. Working away on a new textile piece... the purple mohair is from an old jacket that my mum bought in Paris many moons ago... the grey mohair, and black/white cotton was from a sweater of hers from the 1980’s. Reuse, and repurpose... time to make something new out of something old. #aholmestextile #aholmes #aholmesknit #knit #knitting #knittersofinstagram #knitter #fiber #fiberart #fiberarts #fiberartist #fiberartistsofinstagram #textile #textileart #textileartist #textilearts #art #artist #artistsoninstagram #designer #design #contemporayart #reuse #repurpose #upcycledclothing #recycledtextiles #sustainablefashion #sustainableliving
