Hello everyone, As you may know, the Québec response to the COVID-19 pandemic requires seniors 70 and over to self-isolate. Seniors with limited or no social networks and no access to the Internet are especially at risk, and many do not have the ability to get groceries right now. In partnership with New Hope Seniors Centre and the CIUSSS-Centre-Ouest, Ageing + Communication + Technologies (ACT) is running a grocery order delivery program for older adults unable to access gro...ceries in NDG. ACT is a project at Concordia and we are looking for volunteers from the Concordia community (staff, students and faculty) to help us. There are the 2 types volunteer positions: Calling seniors and placing grocery orders: Volunteers call seniors and offer our services. They provide a friendly check in and make their grocery list with them. Before the volunteer begins, they participate in a zoom training session. Coordinators from our team support the volunteers if more complicated situations arise. These volunteers need to have a basic knowledge of Google Docs, a computer with Internet and a phone to make local calls. They do not need to leave their homes to volunteer, and they don't need to live in NDG. Shopping and delivery: Volunteers are assigned a grocery list and they go to the grocery store to shop for the seniors. They deliver the orders, and then deliver the payment to an established location in NDG. Volunteers never advance money and are never out of pocket. Before the volunteer begins, they participate in a zoom training session. Coordinators from our team support the volunteers if more complicated situations arise. These volunteers need to have access to a vehicle and be willing to leave their homes. If you are willing to volunteer for one or both of these positions, please email us at [email protected] .Please include details about your general availability, and what type of volunteer position you would be willing to fill, and the language(s) you speak. More details are available on our project website: www.groceries-ndg.ca. Thank you so much, in advance, for considering this! Best wishes, Constance Constance Lafontaine Associate Director Ageing + Communication + Technologies // www.actproject.ca 514-574-0182
