AI4Good Lab 26.01.2021

AI is, and will continue to become, pervasive in our lives. It is being used as a tool to make predictions, recommendations, and provide automations in industries that have a direct impact on our wellbeing. It is incredibly important that the people behind the development and implementation of AI represent the diversity of backgrounds and experiences of those being affected by the technology. Women make up a small percentage of the key decision makers who are developing and ...implementing AI models. According to the 2020 AI Global Talent Report, only 12% of Canadian AI researchers publishing on arXiv are women. It is also important to acknowledge that the intersection of gender with other societal factors such as race, socio-economic status, and sexuality, add further dimensions to the distinct experiences and representations of women in the industry. Bringing together these diverse perspectives will allow us to develop a technology that empowers the people it affects, and avoid perpetuating existing biases that result from narrow fields of perspective. This is why AI4Good is offering tuition-free machine learning training to students who identify as women. Help shape the future of AI as a responsible and accountable technology. Applications open this Friday! #AI4Good #WomeninSTEM #Empoweringwomen #DiversityinTech #responsibleAI #socialgood #NLP #AI #ML #DataScience

Each year we bring together entrepreneurs, researchers, PhD students, and senior leaders in the AI industry to ensure that our participants receive strong mentorship and career guidance. Co-founder Angelique Mannella explains why this is a priority within the AI4Good Lab: I think back to the days when I was [...] working as an engineer. What I really wish I’d had were more opportunities to interact with individuals more senior than myself (but also at my level) to be able t...o brainstorm, bounce ideas around, and also learn about different opportunities within the industry. [...] For myself, ensuring that the Lab gave all of you the opportunity to meet exceptional individuals within the AI ecosystem was really important. #AImentors #AI4Good #womeninSTEM #MLbootcamp See more
