Ainslie Wood Community Association 15.11.2020

INVITATION: Virtual Community Engagement Roundtable Good Morning, We are a group of five senior McMaster students from CityLAB Hamilton working with Al Fletcher of the City of Hamilton’s Neighbourhood Development Section. We have been tasked with exploring new community re-engagement strategies, given the unique challenges the pandemic has presented. Al and his team have been reassigned due to the pandemic until the new year but wish to reconnect with all of the neighbourho...od groups and associations. As part of these efforts, you are invited to attend a virtual roundtable regarding community engagement within Hamilton’s neighbourhoods, hosted by CityLAB Hamilton and the City of Hamilton. These roundtable sessions will be held on Tuesday, November 24, from 6:00pm-7:30pm and Thursday, November 26, from 11:00am-12:30pm. The purpose of these dialogue sessions is to give residents a space to discuss community engagement challenges and solutions with each other, city staff, and our team. If you are unable to attend these sessions, we encourage you to fill out our Neighbourhood Engagement Survey by clicking here. Please RSVP by clicking here and forward the email to anyone who might be interested! We have attached additional documents containing more information regarding the dialogue sessions and the project. Do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have! Hi AWCA Facebook friends: This concerns the proposed Second Dwelling Units Zoning by-law. A virtual meeting with City Staff and community reps was held last night. Rose represented our Ainslie Wood neighborhood. We have been struggling as a neighborhood for years to no avail to get the Rental Licencing Pilot approved. Bylaw and property enforcement of the existing rental situation remains not effective. It seems the McMaster and Mohawk college areas are chosen for a ...pilot for the Second Dwelling Units. Adding more rentals into the existing situation seems premature and ill advised. The letter to the City on the meeting last night from Rose is below, comments and support from you would be appreciated. Including contacting your Ward 1 Councillor [email protected] Hi Timothy and other City staff, I attended the virtual meeting last night regarding the above subject. As a Board member of the Ainslie Wood Community Association, I was extremely disappointed that the neighbourhoods adjacent to McMaster University and Mohawk College were basically told that these areas were not to be part of the discussion. We have seen what happens when absentee landlords convert homes into multi unit dwellings. We live with our streets filled with cars parking all day and night even when signs do not permit it and enforcement is only based on complaints. We see the lack of property standards, garbage, lawn maintenance, etc., although the City has attempted to add student bylaw enforcement officers pre Covid. Other areas of the City need to know this! I was also disappointed with the survey. It doesn’t allow for any meaningful input, just what you want to hear. The last question does not allow a current homeowner who does not have a SDU or wish to have one to indicate this. Once again, I feel my voice will not be heard!
