We are so grateful for the technology that enables us to host Prenatal Classes online, ensuring our clients remain supported and connected. We are also glad that our clients benefit from the classes as much as we enjoy hosting them.

When people envision The Airdrie Centre, they might think of the staff. We, however, think of our heroic volunteers. When clients come in, they often feel lost. They might have had big dreams, may feel overwhelmed with the challenges of parenting, and feeling as life hasn’t turned out as planned. Our volunteers do peer counselling, birth coaching, food delivery and layettes, help line, classes and so much more. They always give with open hearts. We’ve seen babies born, we’ve seen families thrive, we’ve seen lives change! So many people now see a future, all because of our amazing volunteers! Thank you!

It is important to know where you can turn if you or someone you know is experiencing family violence during the COVID-19 pandemic. Help is available to Albertans dealing with family violence, partner abuse, sexual violence, child abuse, elder abuse, pet abuse, or financial abuse. We have been delighted with the response from our community supporters. Every day someone comes to help sort supplies so we can be ready to supply clients with material goods (while practicing proper social distancing, of course). We are happy to say we have been inundated with people wanting to help. It's a great example of how people come together in a crisis. While we practice social distancing, let's be intentional about connecting with others in the ways that we can.

Even though things look a little different right now, we have dedicated staff and volunteers reaching out to our clients daily to ensure they feel supported and connected at home. We are still able to offer our clients many of the same services, in a different way. Our volunteers and staff are hard at work preparing our prenatal classes so they can be delivered by video. This will supplement the care our prenatal instructors have already given appointments by phone.

We love all the options for learning that are being shared by our community. Here is one from the University of Calgary that will be of use by those parenting in this unusual situation. https://ucalgary.zoom.us//tZd-Jumu-Gk3GoeWswSDVPBwW424e_6s

Once things return to some semblance of normal, we can expect to serve clients from our current location for another couple of years as our lease has been extended! We are indeed grateful for the space and the relationship that we have with Airdrie United Church. We continue to meet with clients, old and new, albeit by phone and Zoom. Technology is our friend these days. Take care of yourselves. We miss you!

‘Having a baby, bringing a baby into the world, looking after a newborn, none of that goes on pause with what is going on with the pandemic.’ Meanwhile staff and volunteers from the Calgary Pregnancy Care Centre have been reaching out to clients as much as possible, checking in on their physical and emotional well-being, arranging for pick-ups and drop-offs from the Calgary Food Bank, offering prenatal classes online and trying to provide support where they can while maintaining proper physical distancing. https://www.saltwire.com//calgary-doctors-try-to-ease-an/

They are compassionate, caring, and capable and would go to the ends of the earth if it meant helping a mother like her. For decades they have been the unsung, behind-the-scenes care-givers bringing peace and hope to thousands. One of our staff members came home yesterday to this wonderful note taped to her door. It’s a beautiful thing to see that amidst all of the fear and panic, people are rising to the occasion and it brings the best out of them. We are grateful to have communities coming together to lend a helping hand to those who may be in need during this hard time.

For your health and safety, the Airdrie Centre location will not be offering in-person appointments for the next 2 weeks as a precaution to help limit the spread of Coronavirus (COVID 19). About a month ago, we held a Christmas Craft Night and about 100 women gathered to create beautiful Grinch Christmas trees, enjoy tasty holiday treats, and spen...d time in community... That night, these women also came together to financially support the new Airdrie Pregnancy Care Centre. As a church, we are thankful for the safe, caring assistance this non-profit agency offers to anyone who is facing an unplanned pregnancy or in need of post-abortion grief support. In the end, we were able to bless the Centre with more than $1100! #ShowSomeLove

Last week, we were one of the groups nominated to present to the 100 Women Who Care Airdrie group. This group meets quarterly to hear from 3 community non-profit organizations. We presented alongside Community Links and Airdrie Festival of Lights Society and at the end of the meeting, the members voted on who should receive the donation for that quarter. Congratulations to Community Links who received the funding for the event in December. Even without receiving the money, we were winners. We had the opportunity to introduce our Centre to a whole new audience!
