Today we wish to thank Airdrie Online for their help in creating our virtual Christmas Tree Decorating Fundraiser !! We CAN'T do it without our partnerships.

On Thursday November 19th Airdrie Meals on Wheels will be launching a one-month holiday online fundraising campaign. This has been quite a year said Lois Jones Media, representative for the group. In the spring, when the pandemic was first called, the Alberta & Federal governments recognized Airdrie Meals on Wheels as an essential service and as a result they did receive some provincial and federal funding to help with their operating expenses. With a few added costs to ...the organization for health and safety supplies, Airdrie Meals on Wheels were able to continue business as usual. Just as the province was being shut down, the organization held a spring fundraiser selling hanging and bedding out plants which was a great success. It was well organized and space was donated by a local business allowing for COVID-19 friendly drive up and pick up. Airdrie Meals on Wheels is very grateful their community partnership with Davis Chevrolet continues and these funds have helped with the day to day food costs. For each vehicle Davis Chevrolet sells they have committed to donating $8.00 to the program. Jones added 2020 also brought some restructuring for the client billing where new clients’ meals will be subsidized based on their ability to pay. Full details on the subsidized meals can be found on the organization’s website. It has been 37 years without a change in the subsidy approach, and it was just time to reevaluate. The increases aren’t substantial, but do contribute to cost saving measures here and there Without being able to go into stores, canvas businesses or hold public events, Airdrie Meals on Wheels like everyone else has turned to the online world for awareness and fundraising. We tried to create something seasonal said Jones. Most everyone I know loves to decorate a Christmas tree, so we thought virtual tree decorating would be fun. Airdrie Meals on Wheels recognize some of the struggles businesses and households alike are dealing with, so we have it set up for E-transfer or credit card with no real limit. You can purchase presents for under the tree, Christmas balls, candy canes, lights, a star, or garland and tax receipts will be issued for any donation $20.00 or more. Our service is very important currently said Jones. As COVID-19 continues to be a concern, and we know that health compromised individuals are a higher risk, we need to stay the course, and ensure we are here.
