Happy Diwali! Diwali is a festival of lights. In India, one of the most significant festivals is Diwali, or the Festival of Lights. It's a five-day celebration that includes good food, fireworks, colored sand, and special candles and lamps. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness.
The week is Transgender Awareness Week. We want to continue to raise awareness about trans people in our community and at large. It is important to recognize their are disproportionate discrimination that trans people experience and the work we have to do towards the safety they deserve. "If we focused on how we were the same instead of focusing so much on how we’re different, the world would be a totally different place, she said. When it comes to Trans Awareness Week, I hope people do a little bit of reading, learn a little bit about the community and then taking that even further, be willing to meet people and talk to people and share stories and learn people’s experiences.
