Dear Performers, Parents, Teachers, and Friends of the ARFPA, On behalf of the board of governors of the ARFPA, it is with regret that I inform you that as a result of the closure of all Alberta schools by Alberta Health, the board of directors has made the difficult decision to cancel the Airdrie Rotary Festival of the Performing Arts for 2020. Although the festival will not start tomorrow, it is far from finished. The love and celebration of music and the arts is not d...ependent on any one festival or any single performance. Our students have put in hours of work to be ready for this week, to prepare to mount the stage and embrace both the fear and the jubilation of performing. Though the stage will need to wait for another time, those hours are not less meaningful, the lessons not less challenging, and the music not less beautiful for being played at home. We know that you all will keep the passion for music and the arts alive in your hearts and homes. We will see you all again; the stage is not going anywhere. I would like to thank all of our volunteers, our volunteer board, our Festival Coordinator, Jen Harbour, and the ARFPA president, Linda Bruce, for your efforts, leadership, and support of the festival both in the past and moving forward. There is much labour ahead of us and I am looking forward to continued work with this board and this festival. it is a privilege to serve with all of you: The festival will continue and the music will sound again. UPDATE REGARDING 2020 FESTIVAL BASED ON RECENT COVID-19 COMMUNICATIONS. PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST!! REDUCTION OF AUDIENCE MEMBERS APPLIES TO PERFORMANCES IN THE STUDIO AT POLARIS NOT THE THEATRE OF POLARIS. PLEASE READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY...AND PLEASE USE COMMON SENSE...WE WANT OUR PARTICIPANTS WHO HAVE WORKED HARD IN PREPARATION TO PERFORM. BUT WE WANT TO KEEP EVERY SAFE. PLEASE LIMIT THOSE YOU INVITE TO ATTEND. CHOOSE TO VIDEO OR FACEBOOK LIVESTREAM...PLEASE KEEP READI...NG... Our Board of Directors met this evening and we have discussed the current communications released by AHS and Rockyview Schools and we have decided the following about our Festival which begins this coming Monday, March 16th. School Band, School Choir and Community Choir sessions have been Cancelled. We have also made the difficult decision to postpone the Festival Showcase Concert that was scheduled to take place on Friday, March 27th to a later date, hopefully in May. All other scheduled disciplines/classes will proceed as planned with the following conditions: - If Rockyview Schools make a decision to close schools, the Festival will be cancelled immediately. - All recommendations directed/communicated by AHS will be closely adhered to. - We (Festival Coordinator/Festival Board Members/Festival Volunteers) reserve the right to ask people that are exhibiting cold, flu or COVID-19 symptoms to leave venues. Signs will be posted asking anyone with symptoms to refrain from entering the facility. - Hand sanitizer will be available for all performers to use before and after playing shared instruments (eg. piano). It will also be available for all performers, volunteers, adjudicators and members of the public attending the events. - Hand Washing stations will be available and we advise all participants, guests, volunteers etc...to use them regularly. - Pianos or other shared instruments will be wiped down with disinfectant at regular intervals throughout the day, as is possible. - Seating will be set up to provide separation for those in the audience. - There will be a limitation of audience space in the Studio at Polaris. Only one family member may accompany each performer. All teachers will be allowed to attend. We will do our best to keep you informed if and when any changes occur. We are doing our best to insure our students who have been working so hard in preparation of our festival still have a great opportunity to perform. But, at the same time, insuring all those involved are not put at risk. As of today, Registration for the 2020 Airdrie Rotary Festival of Arts - Presented by Polaris Centre for the Performing Arts is officially open!! 2020 is an exciting year with a few changes! New venue for the majority of our sessions Polaris Centre for the Performing Arts - an amazing new Performance Centre located in Balzac! And, a new discipline! Guitar!
