A bit of a long post but please read to the end, and PLEASE PLEASE share this so we can spread the word. Has organ donation ever crossed your mind? When you die..., one donor can save up to EIGHT lives, that is pretty amazing if you ask me. It's quick and easy to do, head to your local registry and have it put on your license!! How about living organ donation? This never really crossed my mind until my family was faced with pretty heartbreaking news in 2019. My best friend and mom.also a wife, sister, daughter, aunt, friend and most amazing gramma ever is in need of a liver transplant. She has a rare debilitating disease called PSC (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis). It is a disease that is caused by progressive inflammation and scarring of the bile ducts. This results in impaired flow of bile which damages the liver cells and leads to cirrhosis, liver failure and cancer. A few symptoms are jaundice, severe fatigue, severe itching, nausea, ascites and encephalopathy. My mom was diagnosed with PSC in 2013, in 2019 she was told she needed a liver transplant, and in July 2020 she was put on the Liver Transplant list. In 2019, 223 people in CANADA died while waiting for transplants, this is devastating and we will not let this happen!! Due to COVID-19 things were shut down for a bit but as soon as we could both my brothers and I did all the required testing to see if we could be potential donors, unfortunately all 3 of us were not the perfect match she needs. We have also had a few other individuals that have graciously gone through the process as well but again, they are not the match my mom needs. I am putting this out there as our family is in need of a miracle and we continue to hope and pray everyday that we find this match soon!
