A great day with the NAIT Photographic Technology students who are volunteering time for Help-Portrait. We had a fabulous posse of excited and keen students who rotated through the day to capture memorable portraits. Photos here just show the first team in and there were still two more shifts in the 8 hr day. It’s a great cause that lets photographers, makeup and hair stylists do good deeds with their skills and occurs internationally today. Working this event is always a pleasure to see students out of the classroom flexing their photographic muscle in real-life situation. Look forward to an even bigger turn out next year!

Alexis Marie Chute - Art, Photography & Creative Writing has created another venue for art! There are exhibitions that will rotate throughout the year at the Renaissance hotel with changing themes. I am so excited to be part of the first exhibit featuring a landscape theme where I have two infrared images accepted. I've always been a city girl and love being part of that energy but I still marvel at the wide open spaces of the Prairies. The two images chosen for the exhibit w...ere the first to kick off my love of infrared and reflect how I see big, sky Alberta. The show will be hanging from April 1 - June 1 and opening reception is April 12 @ 7-9 pm. I'd encourage photographers to check out the other call for submissions as there is still lots of time to submit. Thanks to Alexis for always working to create more spaces for photography! https://www.alexismariechute.com See more

I had to share this article, not solely because of my connection to Rita Godlevskis but also due to Adam Borman. He is a graduate who is applying all he has learnt in school but more importantly, adding even more with his own creative genius and caring personality and one that I am proud to now call a peer. I also need to credit Rita as what she does not include in the post, is her idea of volunteering to do portfolio reviews and continuous effort to stay connected to Nait de...spite being across the country with a heavy workload. I love her enthusiasm for the arts and mentoring which is contagious and admirable. Rita is a role model I wish to emulate in my teaching role, for championing photography in Edmonton and to keep me as an active photographer. Seems redundant to say thanks on top of thanks but Rita's trip to the deep freeze out West needs the lion's share of gratitude from all of us in adding so much energy and love to our photography community! I love encouraging exploring avenues of photography beyond our digital world. Dove into the darkroom again this year with some excited NAIT Photographic Technology students. First time for a few and it’s fun to hear them say how cool it is to see images appear in the tray. It’s like magic to me too even after too many decades that I want to count! Happy that film is still alive in a hardy few!

Missed including a few pics of the first crew in and our early morning set up and some alumni mingling with NAIT current students and my friend and colleague Robert Bray Portrait Design who can't contain their excitement for Help Portrait Edmonton!

A year goes by so fast and Help Portrait Edmonton was in full swing today again. Volunteer crew of 21 students over the day from NAIT Photographic Technology program at the Help-Portrait really stepped up to the plate to share their talents. As well there were two other crews of alumni highlighted in the news clip. The students are so kind giving their time in taking portraits for families who don’t have the opportunity for a professional session and I am so proud of them. It’s one of my favourite ways to be part of our awesome photographic community in this city. It’s also a great way to catch up with other pro studios who return every year as well as see many familiar faces of people enjoying the sessions. https://globalnews.ca//4719/hundreds-receive-free-portrait

Last semester @nait Photographic Technology commercial photography class incorporated volunteer photography services for the MS Society. I had a small but creative crew of students and instructor Shaun Scade work on this poster for the MS Society. The poster is now ready to share and we are so happy to see the image being used throughout Alberta and Northwest Territories for all of their marketing material. Watch for it around town this summer. Proud of our kindhearted team giving their time for a great cause. MS Society of Canada- AB & NWT Division

I'm a little late to the party in posting the opening reception for the InFocus reception but not forgotten! Lovely evening to see such diverse range of photography and celebrate it as an art form. Huge thanks to Alexis Marie Chute for being the tireless champion of the photographic arts and building this exhibit to a national level. Thanks to all that voted for me! didn't win but I had several people tell me they voted multiple times and that is as good as a win to me. Having the support of any kind spurs me to continue my exploration of infrared photography. The image at the bottom is my view of the bayou in the swamps of New Orleans.

I am very excited and grateful to have a photo accepted in the InFocus Exhibit 2018. This is a national competition with a diverse range of images all relating to them of "The Next Level". My image is an infrared from New Orleans and speaks to the bayou. Everyone is invited to the opening reception at the Renaissance Hotel on Feb. 8 from 7-9 pm and I will be there. Photographic exhibits are infrequent in Edmonton so this is a great opportunity to see work from 41 different ph...otographers. There is a People's Choice award so check out the gallery and vote for your favourite (and I will shamelessly now plug mine). You can vote multiple times but only once a day. Tap on thumbnail to see full image. I am also very proud of recent Nait grads, Liam Mackenzie and Brandi Claire who also won spots on the wall! Way to go Nait team! http://www.infocusphoto.ca/infocus-2018-peoples-choice/ Full information on the exhibit: http://www.infocusphoto.ca

As an educator and photographer, I get very excited about finding new ways to inspire creative minds. @photoedmagazine features a diverse range of work that actively demonstrates that photography has no boundaries. PhotoED Magazine, notably Rita Godlevskis, has been a font of support for NAIT Photographic Technology students. Anyone with an interest in the photographic arts should give it a read!
