A traffic advisory has been issued with the following traffic flow impacts expected for Friday, January 15: Work continues on the new library on Queen Street..., between Richmond Street and Sydney Street. This section of sidewalk remains open to pedestrian traffic with signage in place as this work is ongoing. A section of the boardwalk that runs along the waterfront parallel to Haviland Street, adjacent to the Culinary Institute and the Armoury, will be closed to pedestrians during construction of a project at 15 Haviland Street. Those using the boardwalk will need to go around the site while exploratory excavation work related to a future building and the existing stormwater pipe is completed.

Living in Charlottetown - A dream...if you can find a place to live. I have moved apartments three times since Covid hit. I don’t enjoy moving, but it had to be... done. I lived in a gorgeous place right on the water for 5 and a half years from the fall of 2014 - February 2020. I would watch the sailboats from my deck in the summer. Truly a dream come true. I wrote my sophomore album ‘KINLEY’ in that place. It was a very relaxing, beautiful spot. I even wrote a song called, ‘I’ve got money coming’, with the lines: No room for anyone else right now Locked ourselves onto our beds Never thought that it would come to this Guess I took my home for granted, after hearing about so many of my friends who had been renovicted. (*renovicted: when you get evicted because your landlord is going to do renovations to your home...and you must move out and usually they jack the rental price up and you can’t afford to live there anymore anyway). Two days before my album was to be released, I got the eviction notice. They would be doing renovations and I could not stay. I had to scramble in February to find a place. I knew it was getting harder to find somewhere to go since so many people owned Air B and B’s. They were taking over the market. At first people tried to say that wasn’t the issue. But I think we all know by now that it’s DEFINITELY the issue. There just weren’t many long term rental options at all. I reached out to a few friends and luckily another musician got me into their co-op housing complex. It was amazing. It was affordable and the board was made up of people who actually live there and they all made decisions about the place. It felt like a real community. The only drawback with this place was our apartment was located in the basement and the lockdown started the day after I moved in. It was a long winter/spring. I realized after 5 months that my brain needed more sunlight to be happy. We started looking for another place. I knew before the second wave of Covid hit that I would really need to be in a place with more natural sunlight if I was going to be happy in life and feel creative to write music. I lived in that co-op from March 2020 - August 2020. We moved a few blocks away to a beautiful apartment with lots of light. It was $600 more a month. It was the only place in Charlottetown available that wasn’t in a basement and had heat included and two bedrooms (one for a recording studio). The housing market had gone INSANE. I had been checking Kijiji every day for months since we moved into the co-op because the housing market was blowing my mind how quickly the rental prices were being raised. I was sharing the apartment with my partner at the time so we decided we would just work more to make up the $300 per month/each increase in rent. After three months in this new place (September 2020 - November 2020) our relationship had ended. I was moving again. This time on my own with my adorable puppy . In those three months the prices had skyrocketed. I was still checking kijiji every single day. I needed to live in Charlottetown because I don’t have a car and don’t want one. My bike is awesome but doesn’t work so well in the winter. The only places available in my price range were really grimey and still SUPER overpriced. It was very depressing and shocking that nothing was being done in government to fix it. I listened to the legislative assembly a lot. They talk about the housing crisis but nothing ever comes of it. I know there are some affordable apartments being built, but that will take a few years. What are they going to do about it today? I know my friends at PEI Fight for Affordable Housing have lots of amazing ideas. I wish the government would listen to them. A friend reminded me the other day how perfectly ironic it is that my song ‘Golden Days’ from my first album was the theme song for the PEI government’s repatriation campaign urging Islanders living away to move back home, when I myself ended up with housing issues. In better news, I moved into an apartment on December 1st, 2020. It is cozy and the neighbours and landlords are great so I am happy. I’m not moving for a very long time. I wish good luck to anyone who’s looking for a place to live in Charlottetown. It’s an amazing city to live in, if you can find a place to live. 2014 - Feb. 2020: $997 (3 bedroom) March 2020 - August 2020 : $1050 (2 bedroom) September 2020 - November 2020: $1600 (2 bedroom) December 2020- present: $1100 (1 bedroom) Peace from Ward 1, Kinley Dowling Prince Edward Island Government PEI Liberals PEI PC Party Green Party of Prince Edward Island Hannah Bell, MLA Philip Brown Alanna Jankov PEI Fight for Affordable Housing Ernie Hudson

Hello PEI Patrons , performers and friends of The Guild As you are aware, the Province of Prince Edward Island applied new COVID-19 restrictions for the next ...two weeks beginning yesterday, forcing the closure of theatres performances for a minimum of two weeks and potentially beyond. As a result, our wonderful venue - The Guild have put performances on hold -for now. Although we planned for all performances to strictly follow guidelines from our provincial health authorities, we undoubtedly believe our first priority is to do our part to protect our community, including our patrons, employees, artists and creative teams. As you can understand, the wonderful staff at the Guild have many show and refund logistics to negotiate, so we thank you sincerely for your valued patience while we navigate this very difficult time. The Guild thanks YOU sincerely for your support and valued patronage We sincerely look forward to continuing to offer you professional theatre when it is safe to do so . Until that time, we encourage you to strive to adhere to the preventative measures and social distancing practises both recommended and mandated.
