It has been difficult for many people as the drought this year is quite far reaching . However , it is in times / years like these when I am so thankful that I ...can turn to God's word for inspiration , and can also rest in the promises He has so graciously given to those who would believe in and follow Him . "The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well watered garden , like a spring whose waters never fail." ISAIAH 58:11

Another one of this year's purebred heifer calves . ( no photo of the cow this time as I think I've inundated folks with probably just about enough photos of her mother, APS 13Y , over the years - this heifer calf is also sired by APS 16F )

I dug up this old photo from the summer of 1994 ; a time in my life when there was a lot more happening on top of my head and a lot less happening inside of it than there is now ! For me , remembering fun and exciting times from the past is all well and good as long as I also remember that I can't ever live there again . "Forget the former things ; do not dwell on the past ." Isaiah 43:18

It's a pretty nice afternoon here in these parts so I figured I'd grab a few random updated shots in the "up and coming" bull pen . These young fellows were certainly enjoying the sunshine today . I hope everyone gets a chance to just sit back for a moment to think about how much we all have to look forward to in 2021 .

"God made two great lights - the greater to govern the day and the lesser to govern the night....God set them in the vault of the sky to give light to the earth , to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good." Genesis 1:16-18 Just a reminder that no matter how "dark" things may seem at times , God sees all and has a pretty good handle on things . All the best in 2021 to everyone .

To some... a good place to grab something to eat , to another... a good place for a warm , comfortable afternoon nap , who am I to say who's right or who's wrong . However , what I can say , is that as long as I continue to throw a new bale in whenever it gets down too low , my good standing with all involved is pretty much secure . Have a great Christmas .

With as "different" as things are these days , please take a moment to remember this Christmas that God doesn't and hasn't changed and that Jesus is still the Saviour of the world . Also , please take the time to call , text , email ( or whatever ) everyone that your heart tells you to and let them know you have them on your mind . Merry Christmas everybody .

A peek into this year's replacement heifer pen .

We've had a little blast of early winter in these parts recently and thus I've found myself having to open up water sources at a couple different pastures each day . While travelling between home and one of my pastures I crossed paths with several truck and stock trailer units undoubtedly hauling calves in to be weighed for tomorrow's pre-sort calf sale at the Innisfail Auction Market . I couldn't help but notice that pretty much every person I saw in each of those units I ca...me across was either laughing or just had a big old smile on their face . Maybe it was the joy of knowing a cheque would be arriving soon . Maybe they were just really pleased with this year's calves . Maybe they were just happy that they were able to get their cattle into the corrals and get the calves to town . Whatever the case , it really did my heart good to see all their smiling faces today. That , along with a program I was listening to on my truck radio , reminded me of the latter part of Romans chapter 8 where we're reminded that there is nothing that can seperate us from God's love through Christ Jesus . Like all these folks hauling their calves to town today , let's not let temporary things like current political situations , economies , pandemics or weather , rob us of our joy or hold us from reciprocating that love back to God and to each other . Happy 23rd birthday Son . Love Dad .

Our son Josh was honoured as his high school classmate ( and our neighbour's daughter ) asked him if he would officiate their wedding ceremony for them this past weekend . We hope they are able to spend many happy , healthy years together . It's a great time to reflect on all the things , no matter how large or small , that we are truly thankful for .

A thought came to my mind earlier this week and has since been magnified all the more following the message I heard at church today : How much more effort , strength , courage and faith would it take ( which I'm quite certain I couldn't muster up on my own ) to sit and listen to the story of someone whom I know hates me and despises what and Who I believe in , than it would to just shoot that person ?

I've decided to put some genuine effort into breeding these composite ( crossbred ) cattle here and hence I even bred APS 13Y Simmental last year . Here is a recent photo of her and her resulting heifer calf .
