Yesterday Dr. Robin Cox, Dr. Caroline McDonald-Harker, and Dr. Julie Drolet presented at the National Metropolis Conference in Calgary, AB about the experiences of immigrant families, children, and youth during the 2013 Alberta flood.

Alberta Resilient Communities Research Project 31.10.2020

Dr. Robin S. Cox's research team, which is examining youth's experiences and resilience in the aftermath of disasters, is looking to talk with youth (15-24 years of age) who personally experienced the 2013 Alberta flood. Participation involves a one hour private and confidential interview. Each participant will be given a gift card as a thank you for their time. Alberta Resilient Communities Research Project 14.10.2020

Dr. Caroline McDonald-Harker and her research team from Mount Royal University spent three days this week at the Mayor’s Environmental Expo talking with over 5,000 elementary and junior high school students about their preliminary study findings related to children, disasters, and resilience. They helped children learn through games, play and fun about Canadian natural disasters, the two major recent Alberta disasters, emergency preparedness, the psychosocial impacts of disasters, and ways that children can develop resilience skills to help them when facing natural disasters and other major challenges in their lives.
