"Sitting at Timmies my head was swirling with the words my mom had just shared with me, 'Hodgkins Lymphoma stage 4'. She was diagnosed with it and would begin chemo soon. As caregivers, family and friends, we can feel hopeless watching a loved one fight an incredibly tough journey. Hopeless that we are not able to do more to help them. However, we can be thankful that over time medical research has improved greatly, and we know miracles can happen. It is so great ...to know that every year, more Albertans are surviving cancer. This is mainly in part because of donors and all of us who fundraise to not only find cures but medical breakthroughs. I shaved my head to raise proceeds in honour of my mom, so that more research can be done in improving advanced screening. My belief is if we can have more advanced resources that go towards prevention and protection, we can save more lives." - Danielle Low Danielle is raising funds for cancer research in honour of her mom who is undergoing treatment for Hodgkins Lymphoma. Korinda Kostiw’s cancer journey began in June 2014 when she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and her baby was only 10 months old. With the support of a dedicated health care team at the Cross Cancer Institute, Korinda made some incredible memories with her husband Dustin, and son Austin. She passed away this year, surrounded by her loved ones, on September 18th. Today her grandmother, Nellie Braaksma is honouring her memory by fundraising in support of the Cross C...ancer Institute. "We visited the Cross Cancer so often it became our second home. Dr. Karen King and her team were amazing and took such good care of her. And others including, Dr. Allison Chabassol, Sandy Dziaba-Regehr from the pain and symptom team, the nurses, the imaging team, the clinical trial teams and volunteers at the Cross," says Korinda's family. Her family has created an exclusive virtual tour of their home, the iconic Magrath Mansion, in support of the Cross Cancer Institute. They do this in memory of loved ones lost to cancer, including Korinda Kostiw. In the heart of Edmonton's historic Highlands neighborhood sits the Magrath Mansion. The stunning century-old home is opening its doors virtually this holiday season in support of the Cross Cancer Institute - and you are invited! Sid and Nellie Braaksma purchased the home in 2000, restoring each room to its original glory. Sadly in 2019, Sid passed away from cancer, and the family have made the difficult decision to sell the home. The Braaksma family have created a vir...tual tour of the Magrath Mansion, in support of the Cross Cancer Institute. They do this in memory of Sid Braaksma, family patriarch, his granddaughter Korinda Kostiw, and their uncle Tony Van Orizande, who all received care at the Cross Cancer Institute. The virtual tour will be shared on https://p2p.onecause.com/magrath-mansion-virtual-tour this Saturday, November 28th. They have one request; for those who are able, to donate generously, and help them leave a legacy of hope for more moments for patients, and their families, facing cancer. Since completing her treatments, Nancy has been on a journey to give back and support others who have been impacted by the disease. ...
