Computers for Success Canada (CFSC-OPEC) is providing up to 80 additional paid internships for young Canadians! In fact, over the past 2 decades, CFS+ offered employment to more than 7,000 interns in technology and communications. The Honorable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, stated that The Computers for Schools plus Intern program offers paid, practical work internships for young Canadians, through which they can develop advanced digital skill...s and experience in project management, teamwork, and communications. This experience will give graduates the skills they need to thrive in the digital economy and provide the highly skilled workforce that Canadian businesses are looking for. According to its press release on October 5th, 2020, CFSC-OPEC is supporting the hiring of interns by Pinnguag Association, Kids Code Jeunesse, Yukon Learn Society, and 7 public libraries in major urban centres. CFSC-OPEC strongly focuses on hiring BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) to perform community outreach and support for digital technology use. Women represent a big part in the development of technology since the mid-19s. In fact, here are 9 programming languages invented by women! 1 - ARC Assembly Language by Kathleen Booth in 1950. It was used in the first computer systems at Birkbeck College and the University of London.... 2 - Address by Kateryna Yushchenko in 1955. It is a high-level programming system. It was used in economics, aviation, machine building, space exploration, and military complex. 3 Smalltalk by Adele Goldberg, Diana Merry, and 4 other members at Xerox PARC in 1980. It’s an object-oriented programming language. In 2017, the program won second place for most loved programming language in the Stach Overflow Developer Survey. 4 COBOL (Common Business Oriented Language) by computer scientist Grace Hopper, along with other members of a data system language conference in 1959. It is a high-level programming language, a compiled English-like computer program. It is still used by business companies and governments. 5 - BBC BASIC by Sophie Wilson along with her colleagues at the Cambridge University in 1981. 6 Coq by Christine Paulin-Mohring and 8 members of her team in 1991. It’s an interactive theorem prover. 7 FORMAC (Formula Manipulation Compiler) by computer scientist Jean Sammet in 1962. It was an algebra system. 8 Logo by Cynthia Solomon and members of her team in 1967. It’s an educational programming language for children. It can also be used to teach computer science concepts. It uses AI, Math logic, and developmental psychology. 9 CLU by computer scientist Barbara Liskov at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) during 1974-1975. It has features that are an inspiration in the development of Object-Oriented programming today. #computerscience #engineering #women #womeninbusiness #inventors #tech #innovation #innovations #programming #languages #coding #software #facts #development #inspirational

Now, more than ever, students are using technology to attend lectures, and complete their homework and exams. Your donations are so helpful and are going for a really good cause. What’s better than helping children learn? When you donate technology like laptops, monitors, webcams, desktops, mice, keyboards and so on, we refurbish them and send them to schools in need and NPOs. We have shops in Calgary and in Edmonton! We also have a partnership with London Drugs, so you can ...drop your donation there, all-around Alberta! If you’d like to donate, please visit our website through this link: https://www.cfsalberta.ca/donate.php #donations #donate #students #computers #nonprofitorganization #technology #help #donationsneeded #schools #nonprofit

Google Drive is a really useful tool, since it’s the cloud for storage, as described in a Google Drive Help thread. We can use it to have a backup copy of documents or to store files in it if we don’t want to leave them on the computer. We are also used to having our files lay in the trash indefinitely (unless we manually empty the trash). However, starting on October 13th, 2020, the files we move to the trash will only last 30 days, then will automatically be deleted (just... like in Gmail and other Google products). This is not bad news, because this will give more storage on Google Drive (since even the trash files are counted toward your Drive storage quota). But don’t worry, if you lost a really important document by mistake, the G Suite Administrators can still restore those items for you, for up to 25 days if you’re an active user. Of course, Google will notify its users once this feature becomes in effect. #google #googledrive #googlenews #news #technews #cloud

FUN FACT! Until 2010, carrier pigeons proved to be faster than internet broadband! Races between the two happened in South Africa and in the UK. The carrier pigeons won both races by getting the USB sticks to the target locations at least 30 minutes before the internet upload was done. #funfactfriday #funfacts #funfact #pigeon #internet #messenger #speed #race #tech #cool
