Everyday we inspect and re-inspect several attics that adjusters & contractors have deemed unaffected by the wildfire. We are finding that must inspectors are simply "poking there heads" in attics and concluding that they are safe. Alberta Fire Restoration has a stringent protocol for how we inspect attics. It is important that you know exactly where to look to find the physical contamination. The areas most susceptible to find physical evidence of contamination is under the ...vents in the attic. The vents were acting as intakes because of the basic principle of thermodynamics - Heat seeks cold so naturally given the temperature of the wildfire and smoke, attic exhausts pulled in massive amounts of smoke & debris. Please make sure you have a thorough attic inspection by a qualified inspector before accepting the current insulation in your home.

IF ITS IN YOUR DUCTS, ITS IN YOUR LUNGS! As air is circulated throughout your home, it carries smoke, soot and other toxic nano-particles that can be incredibly harmful to your health. Most HVAC contractors have experience cleaning dusty ducts but do not necessarily have relevant smoke & fire experience that is incredibly crucial when dealing with toxic contaminated HVAC systems. Make sure you are getting your ducts cleaned by experienced professionals to ensure your air qua...lity is safe for you as well as your family. Your furnace should look like it did the day it was installed to ensure its safety for you and your family. Air scrubbers must be put in place to assure no cross-contamination occurs when cleaning ducts, this is the first step in the cleaning process before any other remediation procedures are performed.
