With health and safety being a top priority at MPR, we have many great safety initiatives in place to encourage and promote this very important value within our... facility. This year our Health and Safety Resources department hosted a December Turkey Draw. This event is a safety initiative that rewards team members for their contributions to a safe workplace. How does it work? For the month of December any day that we operate without any incidents, a team member is drawn to win a turkey. If we are unfortunate enough to experience a safety incident, the turkey is kindly donated to the local Food Bank. This year, in addition to any turkeys MPR was able to donate, we graciously had 5 team members donate their winnings to the Peace River Salvation Army. We are proud of our team member’s contributions to the community and want to thank our team for their continued efforts to a safe work environment. Pictured below: Shane Bolduc, Manager of Health and Safety Resources, and his daughter Keelei, delivering the donated turkeys to the The Salvation Army Peace River Community Church & Ministries
Happy Friday everyone! We're celebrating with another #forestfact. Did you know that trees in younger and middle-aged forests absorb more carbon dioxide and produce more oxygen than older trees? They're even better at fighting pests and disease! That's part of the reason a mix of young, middle-aged and mature trees is critical to a healthy forest. #forestfactfriday #loveabforests #didyouknow
It's Nathan Fillion! Join him in a virtual guided tour of the lifecycle stages of the forest. #exploretheforest #loveabforests #nathanfillion
Forests aren't static. Every stage in forest's lifecycle is marked by its own unique features and offers different benefits to people, plants, and wildlife. Check out our video introducing the #forest lifecycle below. #loveabforests

Donating more than $400,000 across North America to communities in need! This holiday season, we're making donations to organizations in 38 communities, primari...ly directed at helping families who need some extra cheer this season. "This year has been challenging for our employees and communities, and the impacts are often most keenly felt over the holiday season, shared Ray Ferris, President and CEO of West Fraser. We want to help our communities and those facing difficult circumstances where we can." Check out our photo album to learn about some of these donations. http://bit.ly/3mG5hek
Researchers at the University of Maryland have turned ordinary sheets of wood into transparent material that is nearly as clear as glass, but stronger and with better insulating properties. It could become an energy efficient building material in the future.
Living forests and wood buildings can work simultaneously to keep carbon out of the atmosphere. Check out this interview to learn more about the power of wood. #woodisgood #LoveABForests #netzero2050
Our President and CEO, Jason Krips, testified before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Natural Resources today. He spoke about the importance of #forestry to the #ABRecovery. International Paper’s Grande Prairie mill recently doled out $95,000 in grant funding to eight different community organizations. The organizations that received the funding represent a variety of health & wellness, education, and hunger relief programs and initiatives in the community. Well done, International Paper. We love to see this kind of investment in the community! #spreadingkindness #kindnessiscontagious Tracy Allard Travis Toews Mayor Bill Given
We had a lot of fun joining Inside Education, Work Wild, and the Canadian Wildlife Federation at the Huestis Demonstration Forest near Whitecourt last week, for... a Forest & Wildlife Teacher Professional Development program. A big thank-you to Dan, Charlotte, and Gareth from our Woodlands team for sharing their expertise with a great group of teachers, who came out to learn some exciting new ways to bring the forest to their classrooms. The Whitecourt event was one of six Inside Education PD workshops attended by 114 teachers at sites across the province, where forest industry, environmental organizations, and other experts gathered to share insights into forest ecology and sustainable forest management. If Covid-19 means we can't bring the kids to the forest, we'll help teachers bring the forest to the kids! To learn more about Inside Education’s PD programs, visit https://www.insideeducation.ca/teacher-professional-develo/.
Just like people, forests evolve and change over time. Forests progress through a lifecycle they’re born, they grow, they eventually die, and the cycle begins again. #loveabforests
Forests are complex ecosystems. Researchers like Ellen contribute to our understanding of the forest. #loveabforests #research
Our friends at International Paper have partnered with the United Way Alberta to gift two Grande Prairie high schools with feminine hygiene kits for students in need. Before a single tree is cut, forestry companies prepare a 200-year plan. #loveabforests #planning
This July, West Fraser's Blue Ridge Lumber celebrated a HUGE milestone -- 200 million trees planted! When it comes to sustainability, Alberta's forest companies sure know how to walk the walk. Thank you to MLA Martin Long for taking the time to recognize the important work our forest companies do, and the great care we take of our forests. #LoveABForests
Foresters like Noel ensure the forest industry keeps their commitments to the community. #loveabforests #community
The forest industry has partnered with researchers to reverse the decline of the grizzly bear population in Alberta. #loveabforests #grizzlies
"Love Alberta Forests" is helping Albertans understand the power and beauty of our forests and the relationships we all share with sustainably managed, renewabl...e forest resources. Been to the LoveABForests website lately? Send a friend -- they'll *love* the videos and info about the forest landscape and all that it provides, from wildlife habitat, plant life, water quality and carbon capture, to traditional uses, recreation and culture, rewarding careers, essential materials, and strong communities. https://loveabforests.com/ Alberta Forest Products Association See more
Grizzlies love harvest blocks. #LoveABForests #Grizzlies
We love to see our forest community getting involved with #loveabforests. Shout-out to Steve and his family for sharing this great shot! Steve is the Woodlands Manager at West Fraser's Manning operation, and he knows a thing or two about sustainable forest management. Did you know, last year his mill celebrated 50 million trees planted in their 25 years in operation?
Through the forest industry's partnership with researchers like Gordon, the population of grizzly bears in Alberta has increased. #loveabforests #grizzlies
Congratulations on your award, Cindy!
A healthy forest acts as a natural carbon sink: Alberta’s forest sector employs foresters to manage our forest resource and help keep our air clean. #loveabforests #nationalforestweek
