TIP OF THE DAY - university application - This is ApplyAlberta, the one portal that students fill out a profile and all the Alberta university and colleges draw from when students are applying to post-secondary programs. Acceptance is mostly based on the combined average of the 4 cores Grade 12 final marks of English, Math, a Science, and Social Studies and a CTS, language, fine arts or other option. Students fill out the course name, number and mark and credit. If they are... still in the course, they can still fill it out and it is marked "in progress". They put the estimated grade and then update the final grade when the course is done. If a student is applying to out-of-province schools, they fill out a similar application but directly on the province website. There is no fields for volunteer work, community groups, scholarships etc. There is no ability to show a portfolio to the institution. See more

TIP OF THE DAY - Winter Social Activities-Precovid, we used to host a Minecraft club every Friday, a girl's book/movie club on Thursday evening, and a coding club on Wed at our house or we booked a free library room. It was super informal and most days the kids just had fun, and goof around, rather then learn anything. The parents took turns providing snack and it was a social event that the kids all looked forward to at the end of the week. Some parents stayed to chat and o...thers dropped their kids and went shopping. We also rented a gym at the local community centre on Friday afternoons with play equipment that the kids could let loose and the parents socialize. It was still set up from the preschool tumble time in the morning - we asked the venue to keep it set up for us. The rent was minimum and we charged $10 per week per family and also claimed that in our funding. (We got money up front to make sure we had the rent money for the winter). We also made Friday afternoon the informal, "lets all go to the Science Centre or Zoo day" and bought season's passes. Friday afternoon - all the school groups would leave on the buses around 230 and homeschoolers had the place to ourselves until 5 pm - until the day Angelina and Brad showed up!
