In view of the current COVID-19 situation, we will no longer be accepting new individuals into the Asbestos Exposed Worker Research Screening Program. This will reduce need for individuals to visit hospital facilities and free up resources for our radiology departments. We hope to re-start this program when the situation allows. We are simply at an earlier time point in the outbreak. We are dulled by the daily new case numbers, but a very consistent finding emerges. A doubling of cases about every 3-5 days. So if the numbers seem low to you (e.g. in my Province of Alberta "only" 29 cases in 4.4 million pop), realize that we will be above 1,000 cases in 3 weeks and 30,000 in 6 weeks if we don't "flatten" the curve. This disease will not be beaten in hospitals and intensive care units. Those are the last line in the fight, critical for those wounded in the outbreak. But it is in the community where the real fight lies to reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2 in the first place.
