We are honoured to welcome a truly remarkable local artist to this episode of A World of Stories. While we’d very much like to give her the introduction she deserves, we also don’t want to spoil the beautiful Brazilian folk tale that she’s decided to share with us by giving away too much information. You’ll have to watch it to know what we mean by that! Please enjoy Pedro e Caterina. Special thanks to Edmonton Community Foundation and McBain Camera for making this series possible! https://albertamusicaltheatre.ca//episode-2-pedro-e-cateri

Thank you for joining us to mark the official launch of Alberta Musical Theatre Company’s brand-new digital series, "A World of Stories." Each month for the rest of the season, we will have the immense pleasure to hear fairy tales and folk stories for children from Edmonton’s own incredible IBPOC artist communities. Our first story comes from an individual near and dear to us here at Alberta Musical Theatre Company: Chariz Faulmino. Since graduating from MacEwan University, s...he has quickly established herself as one of Edmonton’s most exciting and genuinely wonderful theatre artists. You may even recognize Chariz from her award-nominated performance in our very own production of Pinocchio. Chariz joins us today to share a Philippine folk story entitled Mt. Makiling. Special thanks to the Edmonton Community Foundation and McBain Camera for their support in bringing this series to life!

Alberta Musical Theatre Company is thrilled to announce "A World of Stories," a brand-new digital series for children! We want to share fairy tales and folk stories from across the planet, and we’re inviting Edmonton’s incredible IBPOC artist communities to help us! The mission of our new digital series is to celebrate and elevate IBPOC artists residing in Edmonton, and to create a platform for them to share a treasured fairy tale or folk story representative of their unique... cultural experience for young people to enjoy. We are inviting interested Edmonton-based IBPOC artists of all ages and artistic disciplines to participate! To express your interest, please contact Artistic Director Farren Timoteo at [email protected]. Leave a detailed message that introduces yourself, and includes a little about which story you might like to share. We encourage and welcome the addition of a traditional song in the telling of your story, though it's not mandatory. All participating chosen artists will be compensated for their participation. We can’t wait to meet you, and discover Edmonton’s rich World of Stories!

We feel grateful and privileged to have received a letter of intention and call for support from the Edmonton chapter of the 35//50 Initiative. For those that don't already know, the Initiative is calling upon individuals and arts organizations to commit to representing Edmonton's civic landscape by hiring a minimum of 35% BIPOC & 50% women or non-binary people in paid, professional positions by 2025. Their aim is to provide an actionable, measurable framework and a safe spac...e for constructive dialogue. I have added my name to the list of this initiative's supporters as an individual artist in this community, as an occasional teacher of artists, as an artistic administrator, and as a privileged community leader. Furthermore, we are enthusiastically committing Alberta Musical Theatre Company's attention to this important initiative to achieve its beliefs and goals. We will diligently endeavour to find and pursue measures that will effectively accomplish the objectives set out by this initiative and properly celebrate the richness of our community. We have already begun a passionate series of conversations at AMTC as an administration, as well as with the Board of Directors, that focus our energies and resources toward true representation and celebration of BIPOC, female and non-binary theatre practitioners in our professional opportunities, as well as in our governance. Now we will aggressively continue that conversation while studying the resources lovingly provided by this initiative, with the framework and goals provided by this initiative, and we will do so immediately, with regularity, and with the intention of creating meaningful opportunities as soon as possible. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the individuals that have gathered to bring this initiative to life, and for their invitation to the community to join them during this time of essential growth. We can't wait to show you our newest musical, but it looks we're going to have to wait a bit longer! While we remain focused on making sure everyone stays safe and healthy, we've decided to postpone the debut and tour of our exciting new adaptation of "Cinderella" until the winter of 2021. We hope to return the moment it's safe to perform for our cherished audiences again. In the meantime we're wishing all of Alberta's students and teachers a safe and rejuvenating summer. We will be using this time not only to develop new work to share with you all, but to evolve and grow our company in important ways. As always, we remain passionately committed to creating spectacular, uplifting and meaningful experiences for all of the children of Alberta to enjoy!

Congratulations to the recipients and nominees of this season's Sterling Awards! Though it was cut short, it was truly an astonishing season bursting with inspirational work. We are particularly thrilled to see the acknowledgement of Gina Puntil and all of our fellow TYA creators at Alberta Workers' Health Centre. The work you do is so important and so wonderful! All of us at AMTC are celebrating your success. Finally, we wish to extend our sincerest thanks to the Sterling Committee and the Sterling Jury for making this event possible during this unprecedented time. Your work and commitment is greatly appreciated, and has brought much awareness to a uniquely beautiful season of live performance. https://12thnight.ca//celebrating-an-edmonton-theatre-sea/
