Canada has two main licensing bodies, Re:Sound and SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada), each represent different parts of the industry. The Copyright Board of Canada sets fees for businesses for them, and they collect them. They in turn pay royalties to the members they represent, including Canadian Singers and Songwriters. The licensing process can be complicated for some owners who may be unaware of the proper channels to go through to have the correct licenses required by law for their business.
