It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of our friend and colleague, Marc Moebis. Marc was instrumental in establishing the Alberta Paramedic Association, which was accomplished, in large part, through his dedication and tireless work. A leader in the Association, he was Chief Operations Officer of the Association’s Executive Branch. Marc’s passing is a huge loss, both professionally and personally, to the paramedic community in Alberta. To many in our commun...ity, Marc was not just a co-worker, but also a mentor and friend, someone who was always there to support fellow practitioners. He was the architect of The Alberta Helping Every Local Paramedic (HELP) Fund, which supports practitioners and their families with financial assistance in times of tragedy. We will be launching the HELP Fund to support Marc’s family during this devastating time. Marc was a light in this world, and now we need to continue the shining example he set by carrying that light within us in our own lives.
The Association is an organization of elected representatives throughout Alberta and is designed to support and unite practitioners throughout the province. As a collective whole, the Association is able to address concerns, ideas and government whether it is locally, regionally or provincially. The Alberta Paramedic Association provides a VOICE for it’s members and empowers them to lead their own profession.
On our website, you can find an assortment of government resources relating to employment standards set by YourAlberta (Government of Alberta). The government of Alberta has employment standards for all employers in the province, including emergency medical service providers. There are also unique rules for ambulance attendant employees under the Employment Standards Regulation. Find out more by visiting out website: https://albertaparamedics.ca/employment-standards/
We will be hosting this virtual townhall on tonight at 6PM to discuss APA's action items, discuss things we have been working hard behind the scenes on, and be able to provide more information to members. Please check your email for the link to join the meeting or message us if you are experiencing problems. The link was sent out to all current APA members.

The resources and services our organization offers are open to all. The benefits of membership include Professional Liability insurance and the ability to be on and vote for our board. We do run the HELP Fund for paramedics and their families in times of tragedy. Funds are donated from individuals and organizations but flow through to families. We pay the admin costs. Our biggest expense is our PL insurance for members. Once that is paid, our organization has about $20 000 pe...r year left for the operations of the association. We rely on our volunteers. In the past, we’ve received pledges of support from third parties, including corporations. They have not materialized. We are fully member-funded. Our funding policy is here: https://cutt.ly/WkQIGIe The HELP Fund has received one corporate donation of $500, from Crestline. It went directly went to the HELP Fund. Learn more about the HELP Fund here: https://cutt.ly/KkQITQl
The Alberta Paramedic Association is a volunteer-led, grassroots organization representing over 1200 working paramedics. All funding is from the fees paid by our members. Learn more here: https://cutt.ly/HkxGuop

Wait.... So Paramedics insured through Paramedic Association of Canada/Alberta College of Paramedics have been working without COVID-19 liability coverage?? Good thing, our members have PROLINK insurance and have always been covered!
Episode 5! Canada's top fatigue expert talks sleep deprivation, getting better rest, napping, shift patterns and so much more! Oh... and a little warning... Marc gets on his soapbox to rant about core/flex at the end https://albertaparamedics.ca/category/podcast/
Paramedics have been integrating into healthcare for many years now. There is so much more to the paramedic profession than ‘getting the patient to the hospital as fast as we can’. Integrating paramedic communication centres into healthcare is inevitable. This conversation is about Paramedic Service and healthcare performance. Measuring how quickly a fire department arrives at a patients side when they request paramedics is not a measure of healthcare performance.
Hey Paramedics! Want to promote paramedicine, connect with thousands of paramedics and show off your social media talent? We are looking for a social media volunteer to lend a hand. Send your resume to [email protected]
