We are excited to introduce Alejandro Primera, who will be leading the Python programming workshop at the 2021 ASEC Hackathon! Alejandro holds a Petroleum Engineering degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela and a postgraduate diploma from Heriot-Watt University in the UK. He has developed his career in numerical reservoir simulation applied to the development of conventional and unconventional oil and gas fields, with experience in the UK, Italy, Venezuela, Colombia, and... Mexico. In 2013, after a few years of experience in Schlumberger and later in ENI UK, he founded the consultancy firm Primera Resources focusing on decision making under uncertainty, reservoir management, and enhanced oil recovery. He was also a consultant for Nexen (now CNOOC Intl.) in projects like Buzzard field in the North Sea and co-founder and Executive Director for PetroleumUX LTD. Alejandro also leads an online initiative called Orkahub Energy, where open source libraries and codes, mainly in Python, are distributed continuously online. He has volunteered for different roles as part of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) both internationally and within the London section, including as the London Section chair and Continuing Education chair. He has contributed in other international roles and initiatives on the technical arena within the Society, leading the Reservoir Monitoring committee for two SPE annual technical conferences and exhibitions, Dubai 2016 being the most recent. He was awarded the North Sea Regional Award and also the International Young Member Outstanding Service Award by the SPE.
Introducing our speaker for Webinar 3: Kyla Flanagan! Kayla Flanagan is the CDCI Academic Lead and shares her expertise and leadership to help advance undergraduate research experiences across the University of Calgary. She plays a key leadership role in the Global Challenges program, the Program for Undergraduate Research Experience (PURE,) and in more broadly developing capacity for undergraduate research experiences across the university. Additionally, Kayla is a Senior Instructor at the Faculty of Science (Biological Sciences), and brings incredible leadership and expertise in advancing and researching course-based undergraduate experiences. Kyla is a member of the University of Calgary Teaching Academy, having received a University of Calgary Teaching Award (Full-Time Academic Staff) in 2015.
