From the air we breathe to the foods we eat - the relationship between humans and plants is essentially and quite simply, life. They sustain us and help us grow. As the world continues to advance economically and technologically, we are seeing a greater disconnect than ever before. Not only ...a disconnect from one another, but also, from nature. Plants have long been thought to improve positive feelings. Numerous studies have shown the powerful theraputic benefits of plants. From creating optimal indoor environments by increased humidity, removing CO2, molds and airborne germs, reducing stress and anxiety, to creating higher oxygen levels. Evidence suggests a strong correlation in boosted levels of creativity, happiness and efficiency in the work place. Further research in healthcare has proven that plants increased rocovery times for surgical patients. "Patients with plants in their rooms had significantly fewer intakes of pain medication, more positive physiological responses (lower blood pressure and heart rate), less pain, anxiety, and fatigue, and better overall positive and higher satisfaction with their recovery rooms than their counterparts in the control group without plants." Interestingly enough, 93% of patients with plants in their rooms reported that plants were the most positive part of their room, while 91% of the patients without plants said the same about their tv. With the current covid-19 restrictions this disconnect has no doubt been amplified exponentially for majority of us.
